Your AirPods are probably connected to your iPhone 24/7.

But did you know you can also pair them with your laptop?

If not, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve created a short guide on how to connect AirPods to Mac

It’s fast and simple.

Let’s not waste time!

How to Connect AirPods to Mac?

There are two ways of pairing AirPods with Mac. It all depends on how you're already using them.

First, I’ll show you how to sync AirPods to Mac if you don’t use them with your iPhone.

While the pods are in their case, open the lid. Press the button on the back of the case and hold it until the status light flashes white. Then, open your Mac, select the Apple menu and go to System Preferences. Click on Bluetooth. In the Devices list, find and select AirPods and then click Connect.

If all is well, the AirPods will appear on the list of devices.

Keep in mind that switching back and forth between devices while using Bluetooth can sometimes cause connection issues.

But what if this doesn’t work?

Why Won't My AirPods Connect to My Mac?

Here are a couple of reasons why this might be happening:

Your Mac Isn’t Up to Date

AirPods will only work with the latest version of the Mac operating systeп. If you haven't updated in a while, that might be the issue.

How to Fix It

All you need to do is update your Mac.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen and select About This Mac.
  • Click Software Update.

And you're good to go!

Is there’s another reason why AirPods won't connect?

Your AirPods Are Out of Power

Yes, your AirPods may simply be out of power. In case of doubt, you can check the battery level at any time.

The solution might seem obvious, but don’t be in a rush. You first need to charge the case, as annoying as that may be.

Here's what you need to do.

How to Fix It

The charge the AirPods case, do the following:

  • Plug the Lightning cable into the connector on your case.
  • Connect to a charger.

You might need to wait for a few hours.

Now, to link AirPods to MacBook, all you have to do is charge them.

Put the AirPods in their case. The Status Light will show the battery life. When your pods are fully charged, it will turn green

Still having trouble pairing AirPods with Mac?

Try this:

Bluetooth Issues

Did you forget to turn on Bluetooth?

As trivial as it may sound, people often forget about this step. That way, it can connect to AirPods

Also, if your iPhone isn't logged into your iCloud account, you'll have to put your AirPods into Bluetooth Pairing Mode.

How to Fix It

It’s very simple.

Put the AirPods in their charging case, but keep the lid open. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case and wait for the Status Light to flash white.

Done!

In case you can't connect them to your MacBook automatically, you can always sync AirPods manually through Bluetooth.

What about other issues?

Software Bugs

You might encounter connectivity issues and a fast battery drain

We’ve all been there.

But you can fix this by resetting your AirPods.

How to Fix It

Press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case Hold the button until the status light flashes amber a few times and then whitе.

Then, follow the steps above to connect AirPods to MacBook

Of course, there are some other tricks you could try.

Try cleaning your AirPods and their charging case. Dirt or dust can affect their functionality. Dirt can also prevent them from charging correctly.

Not fun.

There are several ways to clean them, but the most simple one is just two steps:

  • Get a soft and dry lint-free cloth (a cotton swipe works too).
  • Gently wipe your AirPods and your charging case.

If you still can’t connect AirPods to a MacBook, you can always contact Apple Support

If all else fails, they might also replace your AirPods if you bought them recently.

How to Connect AirPods to Your Mac if You Already Use Them on Your iPhone?

It’s pretty easy. If you've already used your AirPods with your iPhone, they may have automatically paired with your Mac.

As long as you've signed both devices into iCloud with the same Apple ID.

Now that we've got that out of the way, let's explain how to pair AirPods to MacBook.

Here are the steps:

  • Open your AirPods case.
  • Turn on your Mac and click on the Volume icon on the top of your screen.
  • Select AirPods.

That’s it!

Wrap Up

Okay, let’s revise.

If your AirPods are connected to your iPhone, you’re good to go.

If they aren’t, you can pair them with Mac via the case - hold the button on the back of it and wait till the light turns white. Then open System Preferences on your laptop and follow the steps in the guide above.

And remember:

  • Your AirPods must be charged.
  • They must also be clean.
  • Your Mac should be updated.
  • Turn your Bluetooth on!

Great! Now you know how to connect AirPods to Mac.

Time to use them for Slack meetings. Or, you know, for something fun.
