Printing from a computer is easy.

But have you tried printing from an iPhone and found yourself stuck because you don’t know how?

If that’s your case, don’t worry!

We’ve created this handy guide to show you how to print from an iPhone in a few simple steps.

How to Print From an iPhone Using Apple AirPrint?

The easiest way to print from an iPhone is with Apple AirPrint.

It’s a feature that lets you sync up your printer to an iOS device and print out documents, images, webpages, and even text messages.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the file you’d like to print.
  2. Find and tap the Share button – it looks like a square with an arrow in the middle. If you don’t see it, you should tap the icon of three horizontal dots or the icon of a left-pointing arrow.
  3. Then, scroll down until you see an icon of a printer next to the word "Print."
  4. Tap Print and then Select Printer. Select the name of the printer you want to use.
  5. Finally, tap on Print again.

You don’t need to install any printer drivers to use AirPrint.

Note that although most wireless printers are compatible with this feature, you should still check if yours supports it.

AirPrint Alternatives

If you don’t have an AirPrint printer, you can still print from an iPhone via:

  • Non-AirPrint printer
  • Email
  • Bluetooth
  • Or USB cable

Let’s check out each option!

Non-AirPrint printer

The most common way is to install a printer on your iPhone.

  1. First, you have to download your printer’s app on your iPhone
  2. Then, open it on your device and turn your printer’s Wi-Fi on.
  3. Go into your phone’s Settings and hit the Wi-Fi tab.
  4. Locate your printer’s name and tap on it. Go to the file you’d like to print, then hit the Share button.

You should now be ready to connect it through the app and print from your iPhone without AirPrint.

Via Email

If your printer has its own email address (it’s usually set up automatically or during the product registration), you can print through it, even if you’re away from your printer.

Older printers may lack this feature, so search the manufacturer’s website or your device’s manual to see if that’s an option for you.

Here’s how to do it if you have the email function:

  1. Open the document or photo you want to print on your device.
  2. Tap the Share icon.
  3. Select the email option. The device will automatically open a new email message.
  4. Enter your printer’s address.
  5. Enter a subject and press Send.

Via Bluetooth

This way isn’t as common and may apply only to a small number of mobile printers. Check your owner’s manual to see if you can print via Bluetooth.

The process involves four steps:

  1. Make your Bluetooth printer discoverable (this process is different on each device).
  2. Tap Settings on your phone and then Bluetooth.
  3. Switch it on to see the available devices and find the printer on your iPhone.
  4. Tap on your printer’s name to connect to it.

With a USB cable

Printing via USB is pretty straightforward:

  1. Turn on your printer.
  2. Plug one end of the USB cable into it and the other end into your USB OTG cord.
  3. Connect the loose end of the USB OTG cord into your iPhone.
  4. When a window pops up, press OK
  5. Go to the document or photo you want to print and tap Share
  6. Select the Print option in the menu
  7. The connected printer should appear on the iPhone Printer Options page.
  8. Finally, tap on the Print button.

Wrap Up

There are many ways to print from an iPhone.

The simplest is to use Apple AirPrint. Unfortunately, most old printers don’t support this feature.

However, you shouldn’t worry if you don’t have the newest printing device. You can always use the other alternatives to print pictures, messages, emails, and all sorts of documents from your iPhone.
