Betting Giant Entain Set to Acquire Seattle Esports Startup Unikrn
Updated · Feb 21, 2022
On Thursday, the 12th of August, Entain announced that it will be acquiring Seattle-based startup Unikrn, which developed an esports betting platform.
Unikrn entered the market in 2014. It operates an esports platform that enables users to bet on matches in popular games like League of Legends. It also has a mobile betting app. Unikrn has some pretty famous investors, including Ashton Kutcher.
Entain, on the other hand, is one of the biggest sports-betting and gaming groups. Its portfolio includes a lot of familiar names such as:
- Foxy Bingo
On the 12th of September this year, Unikrn will deactivate the accounts of all its existing users. Its services will also be inaccessible. The planned relaunch will happen at some point in 2022, though there isn’t a set date.
A statement issued on Unikrn’s official website reveals: “Selling to Entain is allowing Unikrn to join one of the single most successful wagering ensembles in history. We also take comfort knowing we're joining an organization which agrees with us on a wide range of issues across responsible wagering, the importance of video games and corporate responsibility. We see this as a launchpad into the next stage of our development from within the epic portfolio assembled by Entain.”
The terms of the deal, however, were not disclosed to the general public.

(We all disagree – she influences the team pretty well.) She finished a master’s degree focused in Literature, Publishing, Mass Media. Her hobbies include traveling, and reading. Teddy hopes that yoga will be the thing to finally teach her some patience and show her the path toward world domination. Maybe modern tech can also help her with that.
