Yesterday, the company offered a sneak peek at its new, privacy-focused desktop app.
In a blog post, DuckDuckGo introduced its new desktop browser. The company is building it around OS-provided rendering engines, the way it did with its mobile counterpart. This will allow it to avoid the clutter that major browsers have accumulated over the years.
DuckDuckGo explained that there will be “no complicated settings, no misleading warnings, no “levels” of privacy protection”. The app will have a clean interface that will be easy to navigate.
In addition, the desktop browser will feature the Fire Button, that’s also available on the mobile app.
The company is yet to elaborate on the privacy settings.
Online security has always been the focus for DuckDuckGo. It’s one of the best options if users don’t want Google to collect their data.
This year it introduced the beta version of Email Protection - a free email forwarding service that removes trackers.
Just last month, the company also launched the beta version of App Tracking Protection. This new Android feature will block third-party trackers like Google and Facebook.
Furthermore, users can now enjoy extended blocking to embedded Facebook content. DuckDuckGo go will block hidden trackers before they get the chance to load.
The search results page got a makeover, too. It will now offer revamped definitions, translations, more filtering options, and weather answers.

Teodora devoted her whole life to words – reading, writing and trying to be original on social media. She got certified in digital marketing but still feels she’s not cool enough to be an influencer. (We all disagree – she influences the team pretty well.) She finished a master’s degree focused in Literature, Publishing, Mass Media. Her hobbies include traveling, and reading. Teddy hopes that yoga will be the thing to finally teach her some patience and show her the path toward world domination. Maybe modern tech can also help her with that.
