In the next five years, the company plans to hire 10,000 people in the EU to create the so-called “metaverse”.

What Is a Metaverse?

In short, a metaverse is an online world. In it, people can play games, work, shop, and more. Often, they use VR headsets to enter this online environment. It’s one of the company’s leading priorities.

According to a Facebook blog post: "The metaverse has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social, and economic opportunities. And Europeans will be shaping it right from the start."

It also claimed that the metaverse "isn’t a single product one company can build alone". The door for collaboration is open.

Experts predict that many of the metaverse products will reach the global market in 10-15 years. Moreover, Facebook announced that it has invested $50 million in global research and program partners.

Hiring Europeans

The company will work together with experts in government, industry, and academia. In addition, it plans to include the human rights and civil rights communities.

As part of the process, Facebook will hire "highly specialized engineers", based in the European Union. The social media giant also plans to create other job openings in the next five years.

The EU brings a lot of benefits to the table, including qualified talent, education, and a huge consumer market.

Some claim that the actual goal of Facebook’s announcement is to distract the public from the recent scandals.

(We all disagree – she influences the team pretty well.) She finished a master’s degree focused in Literature, Publishing, Mass Media. Her hobbies include traveling, and reading. Teddy hopes that yoga will be the thing to finally teach her some patience and show her the path toward world domination. Maybe modern tech can also help her with that.
