Instagram Experimenting With New TikTok-Like Full-Screen Feed

On Thursday, the social media platform disclosed that it is also testing out changes to the app’s navigation bar.

Meta-owned Instagram is trying out a full-screen version of its feed, along with an updated navigation bar. The platform announced on Thursday that it has rolled out the experiment to a limited number of users.
The full-screen feed mode will work similarly to that of TikTok. It will have videos extending to the top of the screen with the navigation bar underneath.
The company says it will use this to try out changes to the navigation bar, potentially adding shortcuts for new posts and messages.
Instagram first began testing a full-screen feed feature last month. However, with this new update, the mode will take up an even bigger portion of the screen.
“We want to make it easier to discover content and connect with friends,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post.
With this new immersive experience, Instagram is doubling down on efforts to take on TikTok. The younger video-focused platform is steadily cornering more of the industry’s market share.
“We’re moving Instagram to a place where video is a bigger part of the home experience, where the content is more immersive and takes up more of the screen,” Instagram Head Adam Mosseri said last month.
