Handing Over the Reins
Pinterest is among the top five most-used social networking apps, boasting 66.88 million US users.
The company’s co-founder, Ben Silbermann was its Chief Executive Officer and President up until today. On Tuesday, it was announced that he’ll take on the role of Executive Chairman, effective June 29, 2022. The role is newly created.
“Building Pinterest with such a wildly talented, kind and creative team has been the gift of a lifetime,” said the ex-CEO. “Today, Pinterest inspires hundreds of millions of people with ideas for every aspect of their lives. We’ve built a growing global business that puts the well-being of our users at the core of everything we do. And we’re just getting started.”
Meanwhile, Bill Ready, Google’s ex-President of Commerce, Payments & Next Billion Users, will step up as a Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors.
Silbermann explained the company’s choice: “Bill is a great leader for this transition. He is a builder who deeply understands commerce and payments. And he shares our passion for creating a positive corner of the Internet. I’m confident he’s going to be an outstanding CEO.”
Ready himself said that he is “excited to build on that foundation to further scale the Company’s ecosystem and drive increased value for shareholders.”
Teodora devoted her whole life to words – reading, writing and trying to be original on social media. She got certified in digital marketing but still feels she’s not cool enough to be an influencer. (We all disagree – she influences the team pretty well.) She finished a master’s degree focused in Literature, Publishing, Mass Media. Her hobbies include traveling, and reading. Teddy hopes that yoga will be the thing to finally teach her some patience and show her the path toward world domination. Maybe modern tech can also help her with that.
