PlayStation Is Reportedly Rolling Out Full Discord Integration In March

The highly-anticipated integration of the popular voice and messaging app Discord with the PlayStation consoles is coming sooner than you think.

According to sources that spoke to Insider Gaming – including one source that the publication claimed “has accurately reported past updates,” the full integration will be included in the 7.00 system update, which is scheduled to take place on March 8, 2023.

The source told the site that the integration is unlikely to be part of the 6.50 update, which is expected to come on January 19, 2023. Insider Gaming said they can’t reveal more information on why the Discord update is expected to come with the 7.00 update, citing “the sensitivity of the source’s employment.”

The report comes two months after Exputer’s Tom Henderson reported that the integration will happen with the 7.00 update on PS, citing “the same source who provided details on the ‘PlayStation Pro’ controller.”

The unofficial news follows a screenshot seemingly taken from the Discord mobile app that suggested that Sony is looking to up the existing, but limited PlayStation Network integration.

The screenshot, which made rounds on Twitter and Reddit, was posted earlier this month by Twitter user advaith, who regularly discovers upcoming Discord features.

The image indicates that PS5 players will be able to join Discord voice chats directly from their consoles – a feature that was recently made available to Xbox One or Xbox Series S / X console players.

It also suggests that the PS integration will follow the same general lines as the Xbox integration, which requires users to link their PSN accounts with their Discord accounts and then join voice calls on the mobile app before transferring it to their console.

The voice integration in the mobile app appears to be limited to the PS5, meaning PS4 owners will have to stick with the console’s built-in party chat system – or use this workaround to get Discord on your PS4 and PS5.

PSN integration with Discord already started rolling out in January, several months after Sony announced a partnership with Discord in 2021 (when Sony Interactive Entertainment bought a minority stake in the company).

For now, PS4 and PS5 users can link their PSN accounts with their Discord accounts and display their PSN ID and gaming activity on their Discord profiles.
