The next-gen Tekken is now official.

Get Ready for the Next Battle

On Tuesday, Bandai Namco and the team behind the game made Tekken 8 official. They also revealed the first footage of the new installment in the franchise.

The first trailer for the game debuted during Sony’s State of Play event, featuring Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima facing off in a good old Tekken fashion.

The developers say the footage comes from a work-in-progress story mode, made up of elements they’re currently rendering in-engine.

“The Tekken series has always been known for the dramatic pre-rendered movies from its story mode,” the game’s director, Katsuhiro Harada, said. He also explained the dynamic waves and tornadoes in the background will also work as visual effects during fights.

Bandai Namco first teased Tekken 8 at EVO last month, but the game is now official. It will be the first new mainline Tekken game since Tekken 7, which arrived in 2017.

The game will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. No official release date or window has been revealed so far.

2022 saw several fighting games, such as Blazing Strike and Dungeon & Fighter Duel, hit the shelves, while The King of Fighters XV was ranked among the most anticipated games of the year.
