New Formats Available for Testing

TikTok continues to make a push in the e-commerce field with the testing of new shopping ads. The expanded placement options for them go beyond the For You page.

The three new ad types arriving on the popular social media platform are:

  • Video shopping
  • Catalog listing
  • Live shopping

TikTok provided more information about each of them:

Video Shopping Ads

The first format gives brands an option to create shoppable videos that will display on the For You page. It blends the features of current collection ads and dynamic showcase ads.

When a user taps on the ad, it will redirect them to an in-app landing page. They will get more information about the product and will be guided to the advertiser’s site.

Existing collection ads and dynamic showcase ads will remain available until the end of 2022 when TikTok will phase them out.

Catalog Listing Ads

Catalog listing ads provide a new option for advertisers to promote catalogs beyond the For You page. With it, brands can advertise their products on shoppable surfaces such as Recommended Products and Related Products.

TikTok is currently testing this ad type in the US, where the app has a daily engagement of 29%.

Live Shopping Ads

The last type enables brands to start a live broadcast and redirect users from their For You pages to it. The idea is to boost traffic to advertisers’ events and introduce products to shoppers.

Live Shopping Ads are currently being tested in countries with TikTok Shop, including the UK and Indonesia.
