TikTok Launches Its BeReal Clone Feature

The short-form video platform has outright cut-and-pasted BeReal into the app.
Introducing TikTok Now
TikTok has become the latest app to add a dual camera feature, aiming to tap into the surging popularity of BeReal.
For those unfamiliar with BeReal, this buzzy french social media app invites users to take a front and back camera photo at a random moment every day. The idea is to capture an accurate picture of what people are really doing.
“TikTok Now invites you and your friends to capture what you’re doing in the moment using your device’s front and back camera,” said the company’s blog post. “You’ll receive a daily prompt to capture a 10-second video or a static photo to easily share what you’re up to.”
Just like BeReal, TikTok nudges users with a push notification and relies on emojis to inform them when it is the time to capture the moment.
To see what their friends are up to, users will first have to post their own right-in-the-moment photos or clips.
The only real difference between BeReal and TikTok Now is that the latter does not share your location.
The new feature is currently available for users in the US. According to the blog post, TikTok Now may get a standalone app in other regions.
The hype around BeReal is huge and more platforms are trying to introduce something similar. Instagram started testing its take on the feature called Candid Challenges last month.
