Trump’s Truth Social Debuts on Apple App Store

The app became available on Sunday and quickly rose to No. 1 in the top free charts.
A Slow, Glitchy Rollout
Former US President Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, launched in the iOS app store on Sunday. Now, the former president has returned to social media over a year after numerous platforms banned him.
Truth Social is Trump’s attempt to rival established giants like Facebook and Twitter. However, despite the position on the charts, its release was not entirely smooth, suffering several technical glitches.
The app automatically downloaded onto the smartphones of the people who preordered it after launch. However, many of them couldn’t create user accounts while the app shut out others for hours.
Some saw the following message: “Due to massive demand, we have placed you on our waitlist.”
The Trump media group has described Truth Social as a better alternative to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Each of those platforms handed out lifetime bans to the former president, following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
“It’s actually very moving for me to see people who are on the platform that had their voice canceled,” said Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes. “And that’s our main goal here, to give people their voice back.”
The app’s partial release comes two months after the Trump media group raised $1 billion from a group of unidentified investors.
According to Nunes, Truth Social will be fully operational by the end of March.
