A new feature coming to Twitch seemingly includes an option for streamers to share ban lists with fellow creators.

A Possible Large Step for Chat Moderation

In the never-ending battle to make chat more tolerable, Twitch is putting a new safety tool to the test. While no official explanations have been provided, we got a little sneak peek at what may be coming.

The most important news for Twitch streamers is that they may soon be able to share ban lists with other channels. This will be a major step in handling trolls and other abusers in the chat function.

With the new Guest Star mode arriving, it will be even more important for content creators to know who not to allow on their channel. From the information that has previously surfaced, users will have tags such as Serial harasser or Possible ban evader. New images Zach Bussey shared on Twitter include the Shared ban tag that suggests this new feature may soon arrive.

These tags are not to be confused with the ones streamers can add themselves.

While sharing lists seems like a natural step in chat moderation, it is still unknown whether ban list sharing will only apply to the Guest Star mode or work outside of it as well.

During the new mode’s demo, senior product manager Chris Miles only glossed over the function as it was not something entirely new. It is a rather confusing way to unveil a feature that could have a significant impact on the platform – which is why we are hoping to get more information soon.
