Twitter users can now add Ethereum wallet addresses to their profiles as part of its tips payment feature.

ETH Tipping

Microblogging platform Twitter said on Wednesday additional payment options to its tipping feature. Following the announcement, users can now add their Ethereum crypto wallets to their profiles and tip with ETH and ERC-20 tokens.

“We’re continuing to expand ways to get paid on Twitter, which includes more choices for creators and fans who want to use crypto,” said Johnny Winston, Twitter’s Lead Product Manager of Creator Monetisation to CoinDesk. “We’re excited to add the ability for anyone to add their ETH address to Tips.”

The social media giant introduced the tipping feature in September last year while Jack Dorsey was still CEO. Previously, only Bitcoin tips were allowed, which was no surprise as Dorsey is described as a Bitcoin maximalist. Following his departure, however, the company has gone on to explore other crypto horizons, including debuting NFT profile picture verification for Twitter Blue subscribers.

The new Ethereum payment option is available to all users who agree to the tipping feature, a spokesperson noted. It does not come with support for Ethereum Name Service (ENS) support.

Twitter does not receive any portion of the tips sent on its platform. However, it makes it clear that third-party services may charge fees.

Tips are available on Android and iOS to all Twitter users of 18 years and above.
