The updated app became available on Tuesday on both Android and iOS.
The Pope’s Prayer App
Statistics show that mobile users spend 87% of their time on apps. And the Vatican is utilizing this.
“Click To Pray” 2.0 is an updated version of the original prayer app. It is launched by the “Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network”, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops and the International Union of Superiors General. It is available for both Android and iOS users.
The app enables people to pray together with Pope Francis and support the synodal process daily. The Vatican aims to build a digital community and reach people worldwide.
Pope Francis himself has been very open towards social media platforms. For example, his Twitter account – @Pontifex – has 18.8 million followers. Pretty impressive, given that the average number of Twitter followers is 707.
Furthermore, his official Instagram, @franciscus, has 8.4 million fans. Another wise move – 11.01% of active internet users have an Instagram account.
It is more than obvious that the Vatican is embracing the new age and the benefits it brings to the table.
It has also taken into consideration possible language barriers. As a result, “Click To Pray” 2.0 is available in seven languages. In addition, the app features a teaching tool, which is to help users experience prayer at a “more profound level.”
So far, “Click to Pray” has more than 2.5 million downloads globally. More than 400,000 users pray with the Pope.
Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary-General of the Synod of Bishops pointed out: “The Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network is at the service of the spiritual process, which invites us to be available for the encounter, listening from the heart and the discernment of the Holy Spirit.”
