The artificial intelligence system will generate virtual worlds through voice commands, said Zuckerberg during a pre-recorded demo.

Builder Bot

Mark Zuckerberg disclosed details of a concept he said will be vital for achieving the company’s metaverse dream. The Meta CEO showed off an early-stage version of the technology on Wednesday at a virtual event.

Called the Builder Bot, it is a voice-powered bot that lets users build virtual environments simply by describing them.

“It enables you to describe a world and then it will generate aspects of that world for you,” Zuckerberg said.

He demonstrated the technology’s abilities to the audience together with another Meta employee. In legless avatar forms, they both used voice commands to create a beach scene, complete with islands, clouds, and picnic settings. It was obvious that Builder Bot is still at an early stage, as the generated virtual environment looked row-res.

Meta posted a short clip showing the demo on Twitter:

AI is Key

Zuckerberg is convinced that artificial intelligence is crucial to birthing innovations in the metaverse.

“The kinds of experiences you’ll have in the metaverse are beyond what’s possible today,” he said. “That’s going to require advances across a whole range of areas, from new hardware devices to software for building and exploring worlds. And the key to unlocking a lot of these advances is AI.”

Meta plans to use the AI system in its VR and AR products, like:

  • VR headset
  • Oculus
  • Portal smart display
  • smart glasses with Rayban.
