Advanced VPN Review
Updated · Aug 03, 2022
Best for: Surfing the internet
AdvancedVPN, Inc. is an IT company operating out of California that develops internet security and privacy tools. Its registration was in 2019.
The company strongly believes in online privacy. So much so that it supports nonprofit organizations that fight for free speech and the right to be anonymous.
AdvancedVPN, Inc is accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
West Coast Labs LLC tested Advanced VPN on functionality and performance, which certified it as the following:
- Authentic VPN
So far so good.
To affirm these accolades, I also took a look at other Advanced VPN reviews.
According to Trustpilot, this VPN service provider is excellent. It has 129 reviews with an average rating of 4.8.
With all these signs of competency, let’s dig into its features to see whether it rings true.
Advanced VPN Features
To start with, there are several useful options you can enable in Settings:
- Launch at system startup
- Get notifications when the VPN turns on and off
- Auto-clean browser after each exit
- Automatically move sensitive data to the Privacy Vault
- Daily browser cleaning
- Remove traces of visits to Adult sites that actually work.
- Block spyware
- Auto-connect to Advanced VPN on start
- Auto-connect when unencrypted WiFi is detected
- Protocol selection - OpenVPN or IKEv2
This Advanced VPN security feature is a killswitch, and it stops internet traffic when there is a VPN connection failure.
This protects your data and IP from third parties.
Network Lock activates automatically when you connect to the VPN.
It’s enabled when:
- Your PC or laptop is in sleep mode
- There is an internet connection failure
- Changing WiFi connections
This default function reacts quickly and removes any chance of being left off.
Two features stand out - Privacy Scan and Privacy Vault.
Both features make browsing the internet with Advanced VPN safe.
This feature is a password manager.
It stores all your passwords from the browser and locks them in the vault.
Also, when you visit adult sites, it deletes your history and automatically transfers it into the vault.
You set up a new password for access and obtain your master password simultaneously.
Privacy Vault ensures third parties won’t have access to your information.
I recommend not forgetting what that password is.
If you choose to use this function, it gives you access to three different types of scans.
This gives you comprehensive lists of :
- Tracking cookies
- Browsing activity
- Sites that have access to your data
- Passwords that are vulnerable to hackers
- Traces of adult site visits
After the scan ends, you can identify security gaps to help ensure a safer internet surfing experience.
This scan will find and clean your PC from any harmful threats such as viruses, malware, and spyware.
The scan is relatively fast, and after it completes, you can choose to fix any issues identified.
Deep scan for exposed name and address
This scan is self-explanatory.
You type in your name and address, and it checks for exposure.
This is important because this information can be used for identity theft, opening credit cards, or taking out loans.
Servers and Locations
According to the company’s website, there are 160 servers in 94 countries.
However, this is not true.
The number of Advanced VPN servers is correct, but it only has 50 countries.
Some places on its site say either 90 or 94 countries.
Because of this discrepancy, I contacted support and asked for the actual number.
The agent confirmed that there were only 50 and couldn't provide me with an explanation for the difference.
For me, having incorrect information on your website is a red flag.
Advanced VPN Speed
Advanced VPN boasts that it is lightning fast.
I put that statement to the test.
After checking several locations with speedtest.net, here are the results.
I wouldn’t say that it’s good.
Compared with other VPNs, such as NordVPN, with an average rate of 62.27 Mbps, it’s definitely slower.
As shown, the speed drops about 50%. And in some cases, it’s even lower.
Privacy and Jurisdiction
Is Advanced VPN safe?
AdvancedVPN, Inc. has its headquarters in the British Virgin Islands, which has stricter information disclosure laws than most countries. So despite operating out of California, it isn’t part of the Fourteen Eyes alliance.
This VPN service provider doesn't log your activity, browsing history, traffic destination, data content, or DNS queries. It never stores your IP or VPN address. Also, it doesn’t log the duration of your browsing sessions.
It collects only information about your account. That includes your name, email address, and payment information. As a security measure, the company recommends paying with Bitcoin.
The company purportedly uses this information to send emails for payments, reset passwords, or anything else related to account maintenance.
However, it doesn't sell your personal information to third parties.
Because it doesn’t log any information about what you do - even if someone compels Advanced VPN to disclose your information, there isn't any.
Security and Protocols
To further understand if Advanced VPN is safe, we must talk about protocols.
You have two to choose from:
- IKEv2, which is the default protocol
- OpenVPN, which includes TCP and UDP
At any point, you can switch between the two.
The VPN uses industry-standard 256-bit AES encryption.
Also, it has Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS).
Because it generates a new key every hour, the VPN helps thwart attackers from decrypting your traffic. And if an attack is successful, the data available is limited to just one hour. After that, the protection resumes.
On the downside, this VPN service doesn’t have a split tunneling feature. It connects to one server at a time, which is generally safer.
Based on this, Advanced VPN security seems to be high.
Leak Test Results
Advanced VPN states that it has DNS leak protection.
By using ipleak.net, I tested if that is the case.
This is my IP before using the software:
And this is after I turned the VPN on:
It indeed does what it is supposed to do. It didn’t leak my IP.
Advanced VPN and Streaming Services
Advanced VPN states that it works on all streaming services.
I tested the following:
- HBO Max
In stride, it unblocked the services with no issues.
You can watch location-specific content since it has unlimited bandwidth.
How Good Is It for Torrenting?
It has two locations for P2P networking.
Advanced VPN servers for torrenting are in Canada and the Netherlands.
Both locations have ten servers each.
As shown in the speed test and through my testing, the downloading speed is about 50% slower.
Can Advanced VPN Bypass Geoblocks?
Yes, it can.
Ease of Use
It is straightforward to use.
Even if this is the first time you are using a VPN, navigating is simple.
When you open the software, this is what you see:
This start-up window provides access to most features.
The scan, vault, menu, and notifications are in the top right corner.
On the right side, you can pick locations and manage settings.
And you activate the VPN by pressing the large red button in the middle.
You can get familiar with all functions in just a few minutes.
I was most surprised by the customer support.
You can contact the reps in two ways:
- Live chat
The response time for email was 20 minutes, and the live chat was almost instantaneous.
Customer support is available 24/7.
While they answered my questions, they generally just repeated what’s available on the website - not particularly helpful.
Still, a weak response is better than no response.
Advanced VPN Price
Unfortunately, there is no free Advanced VPN trial.
Its pricing plans are as follows:
- Three months - $9.99/month
- Six months - $8.32/month
- One year - $5.97/month
There’s also a 30-day money-back guarantee.
You get one account that connects up to five devices with each plan.
Advanced VPN Review - Verdict
Does the VPN do what it is supposed to do?
Short answer - yes.
However, I have my reservations.
Mainly because of a second significant discrepancy. There is a payment plan that I intentionally left out due to it being accessed randomly. This makes me doubt whether Advanced VPN is safe.
Depending on where you click, you either go to the standard three plans or a three-month subscription costing $12.99 instead of $49.97.
And you get options like:
- One account for ten devices
- 6500+ servers in 140+ countries
After checking, I found the offer to be fake, which led me to learn who is behind AdvancedVPN, Inc. I came across the name Cashier Myricks. He has been fined twice by the Federal Trade Commission for computer schemes. Yet another red flag.
And to cement all suspicions, California suspended the company in December 2021.
It makes you wonder whether the other Advanced VPN reviews with stellar ratings are genuine.
Sure, it does what it is supposed to do, but other cheaper and safer VPNs are available.
Personally, I wouldn’t put my trust in this software.
And after reading my Advanced VPN review, would you?
