Finding a host that provides everything in one package is a challenging task. But luckily, there is BigRock cloud hosting. Despite being relatively new to the market, it has managed to win thousands of loyal users thanks to its out-of-the-box solutions and value for money.

The plans include DNS management, SSL certificate, cPanel, and email account at zero extra cost. The service ensures that customers enjoy a premium experience at a low price.

As there aren’t many in-depth BigRock reviews online, we took it upon ourselves to look at what this hosting company has to offer.

Let’s get started.

What is BigRock?

BigRock Solutions Limited is a lesser-known website hosting provider. It’s part of the Endurance International Group (EIG) that owns other notable brands, including BlueHost, HostGator, and iPage.

The company is based in Burlington, Massachusetts. Its rapid growth has allowed it to open other offices worldwide. Together, they house 2,700+ employees who work around the clock to keep customers happy.

The company has managed to win the hearts of 4.7+ million customers over its ten-year existence. The reason for this is it doesn’t compete directly with the big dogs in the industry as it targets users on a tight budget. Furthermore, BigRock hosting sells other tools, including domain registration, backups, and premium security.

BigRock Infrastructure and Network

BigRock Solutions LTD offers reliable services built on enterprise infrastructure. It manages two data centers located in the United States and India, which are connected to multiple tier-1 premium bandwidth providers.

The servers are powered through main electricity, backup generators, and batteries. Redundant air conditioning is put in place to keep server rooms cool, and systems are continuously optimized to let the hardware run within optimal conditions.

In terms of data security, BigRock employs a seven-layer holistic approach for locking out intruders. These include intrusion detectors, firewalls, and DDoS mitigators. A system administrator team is on standby to configure rules, monitor, and audit all processes.

BigRock Features

Here are the features that BigRock solutions offer to customers:

Ease of Use

BigRock cPanel and Plesk are available to help you get started. The consoles allow you to configure domains, emails, and SSL with ease. The dashboards provide root access via file manager, and while there is a text editor, it’s limited to PHP, TXT, and XML files.

The BigRock website builder comes with 175+ free templates to create beautiful websites within minutes. The drag-and-drop function is the highlight of this tool. It lets you move, reposition, and edit website elements as you wish without needing any coding knowledge.

Keep in mind that the website builder costs an additional $3.99/month. It includes several handy add-ons, including a gallery with 85,000+ stock images and videos.

Domain Registration

BigRock has top-level domain (TLD) registration services, providing its users with a search and name suggestions tool. Prices start at $8.19/year. While there are cheaper options out there, it’s still very affordable.

You can also check out some of the BigRock premium domains. While the costs are higher, these addresses contain high-valued keywords, making them more recognizable and easier to market.

Enterprise Monitoring

BigRock has enterprise-grade network monitoring to keep servers secure, including network connectivity and disk/CPU usage. BigRock’s team of experienced administrators is always on the lookout for any issues. When abnormalities are detected, they step in to prevent service disruptions.

When looking at the monitoring services for this BigRock review, we loved its reporting capabilities. It has a notification system to provide timely alerts to the technical team, including emails and outbound SMS.

Network Security

BigRock plans come with top-notch security, made up of seven layers. An anti-DDoS and malware detection system sit at the lowest level, working simultaneously to block incoming attacks up to the rate of 300Mb/s daily. The mid-tier consists of software and application security set up by a team of competent system administrators. This approach filters out a wide range of attacks.

The top layer includes manual monitoring and auditing. This part requires heavy lifting from the security staff, but that’s what it takes for BigRock web hosting to compete with the bigger players.

BigRock Email Service

Unlike many other hosts, BigRock offers a custom email for free. Depending on your plan, you can create anywhere from 200 to an unlimited number of accounts.

The separate BigRock enterprise email package is suitable for customers that don’t need web hosting. It offers up to 30GB of storage, customizable templates, and a mobile app for iOS and Android for easy communication while on the move. Prices start at $0.66/month/user.

BigRock Server Accelerators

A fast website will impress your visitors and help your site rank higher on search engine result pages. Through content cashing, Varnish software enables speedy web page delivery. It compresses static elements such as HTML, CSS, and image files to speed things up even more.

Data is delivered through a secure framework. It comes with a built-in Web Application Firewall (WAF) that filters out malicious traffic. All user requests are fulfilled over HTTPS using Varnish, providing the highest encryption level using SSL and TLS protocols. Intel processors power the server infrastructure with HyperThreading technology, allowing the CPUs to handle countless transactions simultaneously.

Unmetered Resources

Out of all the features we cover in this BigRock review, the unlimited resources stood out to us most. Users on the shared and cloud hosting plans receive unmetered bandwidth and storage.

But there is a catch. Under the terms of service, abusing this generosity can result in penalties. This didn’t surprise us, as most web hosting providers enforce limitations to minimize network interruptions. If you require unrestricted usage, you can upgrade to a Virtual Private Servers (VPS). This plan will get you dedicated resources.

Applications Installer

You can prevent any misconfiguration on your BigRock server with the Softaculous application installer. It’s fast, offers one-click app installations, and works automatically in the background. Among its 300+ supported software, you can find WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla.

You can use the FTP function to upload/download system files. The transfer of data is equally secure, for it takes place over HTTPS.

BigRock DNS Management

BigRock provides you with an easy way to manage your Domain Name System (DNS). In the dashboard, you have easy access to the editor. While entries usually take days to take effect across the internet, it only takes a few hours on BigRock’s global network.

You can also change the Mail Exchanger (MX) records, which determine how other servers treat your emails. Failure to do this might cause your messages to be blacklisted as spam.

BigRock Uptime

BigRock has an uptime guarantee of 99.99% over 30 days. The company’s site tells us that the last major outage happened in 2014, which seems almost impossible. Even though we didn’t face any issues during our tests, we decided to investigate further.

After reading many BigRock reviews, we found a considerable number of comments concerning downtimes. Customers complained of servers going offline for days. Sadly, this host doesn’t have clear guidelines for compensating users for the loss.

BigRock Speed

BigRock hosting performed average in our speed tests. Fastorslow.com gave us an average ping time of 190ms from 18 locations worldwide, which shows fast connectivity between the server and the end-users.

The Time To First Byte (TTFB) test determines the time it takes for a website/app to process user requests. GTmetrix showed us 493ms, which is more than double compared to what Google recommends. It took five seconds for the entire page to load. While this isn’t great, it’s better than the global average of ten seconds.

There are alternative ways to speed up your site, including using a Content Delivery Network (CDN). Upon using it, performance improved by 70%.

Hosting Services

There are various BigRock hosting plans available, including:

Shared Hosting

BigRock shared hosting is ideal for those new to owning a website and users working on a budget. Users have to share a single server to keep prices low, which does impact your site’s performance.

It comes with many features, including unlimited storage, unmetered bandwidth, and email management. Despite being granted unrestricted usage, limitations are in place to maintain quality.

You can choose between Linux and Windows hosting. The former comes with cPanel, while the latter offers Plesk. Both are easy-to-use consoles where you can configure websites, apps, and email accounts.

Cloud Hosting

BigRock cloud hosting offers additional resources at flexible prices. It’s perfect for users that want to create advanced platforms, such as ecommerce stores, media streaming, and app services.

Automatic failover helps to minimize downtimes. If hardware fails, your website is transferred to a different server. BigRock’s in-house CDN boosts services’ responsiveness while the global network of data centers distributes traffic load efficiently. It also improves security by filtering spam/DDoS attacks.

This plan is easy to scale, as you can upgrade at any time. However, it would have been better to have a resource calculator for adjusting pricing instead of pre-configured tiers.

VPS Hosting

BigRock VPS is for experts that need more power and freedom. You get a virtual machine with dedicated resources, and the servers are configured with state-of-the-art services for extra protection. It consists of hardened industry-leading applications such as OpenStack, KVN, Neustar, and an advanced DDoS layer.

Unlike cloud hosting, you can expand the storage on VPS. The add-on costs $0.15/GB/month. Unfortunately, bandwidth is limited and cannot be increased. Other user-written BigRock reviews confirm that once you exhaust your allocation, your website will go offline.

Reseller Hosting

BigRock reseller hosting is offered in partnership with Resellerclub.com. It’s perfect for those who want to establish a brand in the hosting industry. You can rebrand services, set the prices, and sell directly from your website.

The plans support an unlimited number of websites and Plesk accounts, allowing you to sign up as many customers as needed. Unfortunately, storage space and bandwidth are limited.

Customer Support

BigRock support center is a one-stop-shop for resolving customer complaints. Its in-depth knowledge base covers a wide range of topics that are neatly organized.

If you need additional support, you can reach out to the team via live chat, email, phone, or by submitting a ticket. The live chat is available during business hours only. The support agent we spoke to was friendly provided us with straight answers promptly.

Nonetheless, we would like to see a community forum in the future. But other than that, our BigRock review praises the company’s support team.

BigRock vs. GoDaddy

GoDaddy is one of the world’s most popular domain registrars. The company also offers web hosting, including shared, WordPress, VPS, and dedicated servers. Aside from that, it has web design services to help businesses establish an online platform with ease.

While GoDaddy’s pricing is low, it charges extra for email hosting. BigRock’s plans are also incredibly cheap, but they come with a ton of free features, including webmail, unmetered bandwidth, and endless storage.

Security is excellent on both hosts as they offer monitoring, DDoS, and malware protection at no extra cost. However, premium backups come at an additional charge. With BigRock, prices start at $1.60/month, and GoDaddy charges $2.99/month.

Both provide servers with a stellar performance and 99.99% uptime, but it’s GoDaddy’s service level agreement that wins. Customers are eligible for compensation in case of significant downtime, which isn’t the case with BigRock.

BigRock vs. Hostinger

Hostinger is another notable competitor. They offer affordable plans backed up by aggressive discounts of up to 90% and many freebies, including a free domain.

BigRock’s plans offer value for money, including unlimited resources from as low as $1.59/month. Hostinger enforces limitations but compensates for the shortfall by providing users with superb servers.

BigRock has cloud plans that are delivered through its CDN service. Its multiple tier-1 bandwidth providers warrant greater uptime and reliability.

BigRock vs. HostGator

HostGator and BigRock are sister companies under the EIG umbrella. Both compete on different fronts of the industry by providing irresistible offers. While BigRock is a better choice for beginners, HostGator targets pro users.

HostGator’s plans range from basic shared hosting to dedicated servers. The company offers many tools, including a one-click installer, web builder, and free domain. Pricing is equally affordable and starts at $2.75/month.

BigRock’s products mainly target first-timers and users working on a budget. While you can get a quality service that beats the low pricing of HostGator, some resources are limited. HostGator offers unmetered bandwidth in VPS and dedicated servers. Unfortunately, BigRock caps usage for higher tiers at 10TB.

BigRock vs. Bluehost

Bluehost is another sister company of BigRock. Both are owned by EIG who invests heavily in acquiring top hosts globally, targeting different audiences.

Bluehost offers dedicated plans for WordPress and ecommerce users. While bandwidth and storage are unlimited, pricing isn’t transparent. Users are required to sign up for long-term yearly plans. The company also charges extra for essential services that BigRock offers for free, including SSL certificates, SEO tools, and malware protection.

While BigRock’s pricing is also based on year-long plans, it is much cheaper. But it’s essential to keep in mind that its resource limitations aren’t ideal for long-term growth. Since expanding bandwidth beyond 10TB/month is impossible, you’re better off settling with Bluehost.

BigRock Pricing

BigRock has various hosting plans available for a very affordable price. You can get additional discounts when signing up for two, three, five, or ten years.

  • Deluxe (From $27.39/month): 50 GB space, 1000 GB transfer, unmetered websites, free SSL certificates, and free WHMCS.
  • Premium (From $38.59/month): 100 GB space, 2000 GB transfer, unmetered websites, free SSL certificates, and free WHMCS.

There is no BigRock free hosting plan, but it offers a 30-day refund policy. While prices on the website are monthly, you have to commit to the shared and cloud hosting plans for at least one year.

Verdict – Is BigRock Hosting Good?

BigRock is an incredible host that offers a wide variety of cheap plans. It’s excellent for hosting blogs and websites for small businesses. You even get many add-ons, including a free SSL certificate, email service, and DNS management.

The web builder, 175+ templates, and gallery with 85,000+ stock images make it easy to create a website from scratch. On the downside, it’s not a good option for power users. As mentioned in this BigRock review, bandwidth is limited to 10TB/month.
