Best for: Parental supervision
What Is FamiSafe?
FamiSafe is an award-winning parental supervision app that requires no rooting or jail breaking. It can help you protect your children from inappropriate online content.
Even sites that appear innocent can contain harmful content, sell browsing data to advertisers, or steal personal information. The internet is also full of bullies and online predators. Nine out of ten teens acknowledge that cyber harassment exists and 60% of young social media users witness bullying firsthand. Moreover, cyberbullying victims are 1.9 times more likely to commit suicide.
Unlike adults, kids see the internet as a rich entertainment source and a platform to express themselves. They’re not aware of its pitfalls and may share too much information or fall victim to criminals online. But luckily, the FamiSafe kid control app can help you safeguard your children.
FamiSafe is part of the Wondershare software family. Wondershare was founded in 2003 and headquartered in Shenzhen — China’s Silicon Valley. FamiSafe may be just one of Wondershare’s dozens of products, but it’s the best and most popular among users. The FamiSafe remote control for Android has been downloaded more than one million times.
In 2020, the FamiSafe computer monitoring software received accolades from the National Parenting Product Awards and Mom’s Choice Awards. It also bears the National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval. Based on 14,000+ FamiSafe reviews, the app has a 4.5 rating on Google Play, making us eager to test it out for ourselves.
How to Set up FamiSafe
The installation and setup procedure for this parental control app varies per device. In our tests, we used the FamiSafe Windows and Android apps.
To get started, here’s a detailed guide.
- Download the app. FamiSafe supports Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire OS. The FamiSafe kid control solution isn’t compatible with video game consoles yet.
You can get the app straight from the Visit Site button above or use the QR code from the company's website. Alternatively, you can search for the software on digital distribution services like the App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon Appstore.
- Create an account.
- Choose parent as your identity. This way, you can generate a code to link your device to those of your children.
- Download the FamiSafe parental control app on your child’s personal computer, smartphone, and tablet.
- Select the Pair With Code option on the main screen. And voilà, you can now monitor what your child is doing online.
From there, you can set controls on what your child can do on the linked device. The Android parental control app is free for the first three days only. Without a paid subscription, you’ll only get minimal features.
How good is FamiSafe as a parenting tool? Below is the breakdown of its features.
The Activity Report dashboard provides daily monitoring of your child’s online activity. You can view browsing activity and app usage chronologically.
It also offers insight into what your child looks for on online search engines. Knowing such queries can help you learn about your kid’s interests and challenges.
FamiSafe lets you regulate your child’s app usage. Since apps are classified by age, this feature can help you approve appropriate software. Alternatively, you can block unsuitable apps and make them invisible on your kid’s device.
If you wish, you can block apps for a given period. Doing so can be an effective way to limit distractions from studying and promote healthy online habits.
FamiSafe Screen Time provides a graph that visualizes your child’s device usage. With historical data, you can find out how much time your kid spends on the internet per day, week, and month.
Apart from learning about their favorite apps, you can also discover what time of the day they are usually glued to their electronics.
According to the World Health Organization, children aged 2–4 shouldn’t use digital devices for more than one hour per day. Kids aged 5–18 shouldn’t spend over two hours in front of a screen. Exceeding these thresholds can increase your child’s risk of obesity, sleep deprivation, low productivity, depression, and social anxiety.
FamiSafe Smart Schedule gives you the power to set screen time restrictions and remotely block your kid’s device as you see fit. This way, you can force your child to go off-screen and spend more time on something else. It’s possible to whitelist certain apps during the period of restriction.
With FamiSafe Web Filter, you can restrict access to dangerous sites and get notifications when your kid tries to visit them.
There are a variety of categories that you can add to the filter, including adult content, crime and death, drugs, gambling, games, religion, shopping, unethical content, and more. You can, however, add exceptions to any of these categories.
The app relies on Chrome’s and Safari’s site categories, so the FamiSafe Web Filter may not work on other browsers.
You can learn about your child’s browsing history, including any searches performed in private or incognito mode. Using SafeSearch, you can ensure that only censored results show up and find out the queries searched under it.
The FamiSafe parental control software saves up to three months' worth of browsing history.
The FamiSafe location tracker lets you track your kid’s whereabouts in real-time. You don’t have to make calls or rely on them to keep you posted. If you use an Android device, this feature can also help you locate it if you lose it.
The FamiSafe mobile tracker gives you the option to view where they have been through Google Maps.
With the FamiSafe child tracker, you can create Geofence areas. If your child enters places you disapprove of, you will receive a notification.
Battery Situation Alerts
The FamiSafe GPS location tracker can tell you when your child’s device is about to run out of power.
The FamiSafe block app keeps an eye on your child’s YouTube activity. If you’re unhappy with what your kid has been consuming on this video-sharing platform, you can restrict certain content and even channels.
Suspicious Photo Detection
This parental supervision app detects when your kid sends or receives explicit content to someone on social media.
As the app tracks your child’s photo albums, you’ll receive alerts when your kid is watching adult videos or downloading pornographic images. If the device in question runs on Android, you can view and delete the content.
Suspicious Text Detection
FamiSafe phone monitoring gives immediate warnings when it finds offensive and upsetting words sent to your child through Facebook, Gmail, Instagram, Kik, Messenger, SMS, Twitter, Whatsapp, or YouTube (only on iOS devices).
It’s possible to link your kid’s social media accounts to your device and choose the category of suspicious terms to monitor. Also, you can add trigger words to FamiSafe’s database.
Driving History Reporting
The FamiSafe phone tracker can give insights into your teenager’s driving habits without sitting in the passenger’s seat. A detailed report is generated after each trip and contains key statistics such as average speed, maximum speed, and total driving distance.
The app provides a weekly summary of their performance behind the wheels and driving routines. Since you can access summaries of the past three weeks, so you can monitor progress and end bad habits before they have a chance to form.
Personal Identification Number (PIN)
It’s easy to set a four-digit PIN to protect the integrity of your account. This extra layer of security keeps your child from tampering with your settings.
While there is no FamiSafe Free Version, you can try the software for three days with limited features without having to commit financially. If you want to unlock the platform’s full potential or use it for longer than three days, you can upgrade to the FamiSafe Premium version. This version includes all features mentioned in our FamiSafe review.
Many FamiSafe reviews on Google Play show that the limited FamiSafe trial is an issue for many users. It’s too short to test the solution properly.
All premium plans have a seven-day money-back guarantee. Wondershare deals with refund requests from users who made the purchase through its site. If you buy the FamiSafe tracker on Google Play or the App Store, you’ll have to submit your refund request on the platform.
Moreover, FamiSafe premium plans are subject to auto-renewal only if you pay with a credit card or PayPal. If you transfer funds through a debit card, a digital wallet, a convenience store, cash on delivery, your subscription will expire by the end of its term.
FamiSafe vs Cocospy
Like FamiSafe, Cocospy doesn’t ask you to root or jailbreak the target device. It also has its own versions of FamiSafe iPhone monitoring, FamiSafe location tracking with geofence building, and FamiSafe browser history storage.
But there are some differences: Cocospy is a full-fledged snooping app, whereas FamiSafe is purely a parenting tool.
With Cocospy, you can learn about incoming and outgoing calls and read SMS messages, including deleted ones. It can also track communications exchanged on most major social networking apps and multimedia messaging services.
Cocospy comes with a keylogging functionality, enabling you to capture your target’s keystrokes on an Android phone. FamiSafe lacks this capability.
FamiSafe doesn’t pay attention to calls but only monitors text messages and chats to detect keywords that may suggest harmful language.
Unlike the FamiSafe tracking app that offers a single premium plan, Cocospy offers two subscriptions for individuals or families, but there is a limit of three devices you can track.
The FamiSafe app price is also more affordable. Cocospy’s cost starts at $39.99 per month with no free version or free trial, but it only supports iOS and Android devices. The FamiSafe parental control software is compatible with the leading PC and mobile operating systems.
FamiSafe vs mSpy
There are many features in FamiSafe and mSpy that overlap, including app blocking, browser history reviewing, geofencing, explicit content detection, keyword alerts, mobile tracking, and website filtering.
But there are notable functionalities on mSpy that are missing on the FamiSafe kid control app. These include contact browsing, keylogging, logging of calls and bookmarked sites, event and note scanning, screen recording, social media monitoring, and tracking of Wi-Fi connections.
However, mSpy doesn’t come with screen time control, smart scheduling, driving history reporting, and YouTube monitoring capabilities that are part of the FamiSafe kid control software.
These apps offer a premium subscription with matching billing options, although mSpy provides a basic plan with fewer features.
FamiSafe and mSpy work on iOS and Android devices. But only Wondershare’s parenting tool supports desktop operating systems and Kindle Fire OS.
mSpy has jailbreak and no-jailbreak versions for the iPhone and needs manual installation to the target device. Quite the contrary, you just need to physically access the target device to download and pair any FamiSafe version with yours.
With mSpy’s Family Kit, you can link up to three smartphones. But with the Wondershare parental supervision tool, you can integrate up to 30 devices.
FamiSafe Review - Verdict
FamiSafe is a parenting tool that promotes close online supervision of children without violating their privacy. It eliminates the need to root or jailbreak a device, making it easy to install.
Although FamiSafe doesn’t log calls, monitor conversations in messaging apps, or scan contacts, notes, and calendar events, its compatibility with Windows and macOS makes it stand out.
FamiSafe’s three-day free trial may be on the short side. But at least the cost of its premium subscriptions is very affordable. For a relatively low price, you can supervise up to 30 devices.
Many FamiSafe reviews show that it’s a close competitor to Cocospy and mSpy, and it’s trustworthy and decent. We couldn’t agree more, and we can’t wait for you to try it.
