Here’s what more you need to know:

Helcim Features

Helcim has some fantastic features that can help small businesses, including:

Merchant Account

One of the first things you need to do when signing up for Helcim merchant services is submit a merchant account application. Once your application has been approved, you immediately receive a merchant account.

The Helcim merchant account allows you to accept credit and debit card payments – including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and China UnionPay. It is very convenient, eliminating the need to open a separate merchant account with an issuing bank.

However, Helcim reserves the right to reject your application. There is an Acceptable Use Policy that details a list of businesses that don’t qualify for the services. Some of these include ‘high-risk merchants’ like telemedicine services and telemarketing companies.

Credit and Debit Terminals

Helcim has recently presented a new option for all your payment needs. The Helcim Card Reader сan be connected to numerous devices. You’ll be able to accept all types of payment, no matter your location. You can get it for $199/unit.

Helcim also offers a one-year cost-free replacement.

If you already have a terminal, you can check out the terminal exchange program. Costing $75 per exchange, you can send in your current device in exchange for a refurbished Helcim terminal. Keep in mind that only certain terminals are eligible for this exchange program.

Virtual Terminal

In addition to the physical terminals, the Helcim merchant services also include a virtual option that allows you to accept computer payments. The web interface enables you to log into your account using any device with internet access so that you can authorize and process credit card transactions in real-time.

Using the Helcim virtual terminal, you can manually enter the customer’s credit card details and additional information like billing/shipping addresses. It’s also possible to send out customer receipts via email or print them.

More so, the virtual terminal allows you to:

  • Process refunds and void payments
  • View transaction history
  • Set up recurring payments
  • Accepts other types of payments like cash, cheques, bank deposits, and ACH payments

Point of Sale (POS)

The point-of-sale feature is included in the Helcim eCommerce merchant platform. Using the web-based version of Helcim Commerce, you can utilize the POS functionality to check out your customers and track inventory, payments, and sales trends.

You can also access the POS feature on mobile. The Helcim app connects to all the data stored on the platform. Plus, you can download it on as many devices as you need, allowing you to create unlimited user accounts for your staff.

In addition to this, Helcim’s POS comes with templates that allow you to customize your checkout. Any changes you make will be synced across all your devices. The POS can also integrate with different hardware options such as the physical terminals, compatible barcode readers, printers, and cash drawers.

Online Store

Want an online store, but don’t know where to begin?

Helcim’s got your back.

It has tools you can use, even if you’re a beginner. That’s right – you don’t need to be a web designer or a software developer!

Goodies include:

  • A fully hosted online store
  • Online invoicing
  • Product catalog and inventory management system
  • Customer management system
  • Credit-card vault
  • Subscription management and recurring processing tool
  • Third-party integrations

The extra features may vary depending on your payment plan.

The Helcim Commerce platform can be used by an unlimited number of users. You can also specify user roles and include enhanced security. More so, your commerce account can be used across several business locations, and you’ll still be able to access your information. You can even fully customize your platform, including your CMS and email templates.

There’s a great demo on the website and you won’t regret checking it out.

Integrations

Helcim currently has several integrations to make payment processing much easier.

The Helcim Quickbooks integration is one of the most popular ones. You can export your transactions, orders, customers, and products to QuickBooks with just a few clicks. It’s also easy to import customer information, previous invoices, and your product catalog from QuickBooks into Helcim’s platform.

Another commonly used integration is the Helcim WooCommerce plugin. This plugin offers two integration modes. The Helcim.js integration reduces your security and PCI compliance scope, and the direct integration is for straight-forward payment integration.

Other third-party integrations include Magento, Shopify, Rezgo, Great Exposure, and WHMCS.

Helcim also has a payment gateway API that allows you to integrate payments. Using the API, you can authorize payments, void transactions, and manage your batches from the Helcim Commerce platform. You can also combine this gateway with a shopping cart, billing system, or other compatible third-party software.

Helcim Mobile App

As previously mentioned, Helcim services and the Helcim Commerce platform also have a mobile app. You can download the Helcim app on any Apple or Android device.

From the app, you can access all the features in your Helcim account. It allows you to manage your products and services, view and create invoices, track inventory, send digital receipts, and review customer information.

The Helcim card reader also syncs directly to your mobile device. Using the app, you can use the mobile card reader hardware to process payments. Alternatively, you can manually enter your customer’s credit card information to process a payment.

You can download the app to as many devices as you want, and it’s possible to create an unlimited number of accounts for your staff—all at no extra cost.

It connects to the information stored in your Helcim Commerce platform. Any new data added or changes automatically reflect across all other devices.

Ease of Use and Interface

The Helcim credit card processing software is an easy and effortless program to use. It features a clean and sleek interface with tools that are simple to navigate.

Signing up for a Helcim account is very straightforward and only takes a few minutes. After signing up, you’ll need to apply for a merchant account. But once your account has been approved, you can start using it right away.

Every feature on the program has been designed to be intuitive. You can access them from the convenient dashboard on the web or the mobile app. It’s easy to access your information from any device.

Besides, the software’s payments can be authorized in seconds, thanks to the virtual terminal that allows you to enter your customer’s credit card details. You can view your transaction information and accept payments, manage customer information, send invoices, set up payment pages, and upload products from any of your devices.

Helcim Security

The credit card processing service offers top-notch security to its users. Helcim is a PCI Level-1 compliant payment processor: it adheres to the highest level of PCI DSS standards.

Thankfully, with Helcim’s updated plans, users’ PCI compliance is managed through Helcim. Subscribers can complete their company’s PCI compliance directly from the Helcim dashboard. Additionally, there are no PCI or non-compliance fees.

Helcim also reports that it regularly conducts strict and thorough audits, tests, and inspections. The company states that it takes very strong measures to ensure that merchant and customer data are secure, both through its software application, physical hardware, and data centers.

For an added layer of security, Helcim also keeps customer data separated from the Helcim web servers.

Customer Support

Helcim offers customer support via email and telephone.

If you wish to call, the support team is available 7 am to 7 pm MST. Email is available 24/7.

The agent we spoke to was quick to respond and highly knowledgeable on a wide range of software issues. While researching for this Helcim review, we figured you can contact the support team to order hardware terminals or process your terminal exchange program.

You can also submit a ticket through the payment app.

In addition, Helcim also has a rich and searchable knowledge base on its website. You can find all the information you need to know arranged in folders. Each one includes related articles detailing everything from how to navigate the dashboard to update your bank information.

The company also has a YouTube channel! It has tutorials and webinars, among other goodies.

Helcim Pricing

There are two Helcim pricing plans:

In-person payments ($20/month), includes:

  • Helcim Commerce account – Unlimited users and access-controls, advanced reporting tools.
  • Payment processing – Visa, MasterCard, and Amex merchant account, in-person credit card processing (EMV/Swipe), virtual terminal.
  • Mobile apps and point-of-sale
  • Invoicing
  • Customer management
  • Security and fraud prevention

Manually keyed and online ($20/month), includes:

  • Helcim Commerce account – Unlimited users and access-controls, advanced reporting tools
  • Payment processing – Visa, MasterCard, and Amex merchant account, online and ecommerce credit card processing, virtual terminal, payment gateway API, Helcim.js (developer tool for adding payments to your website), hosted payment pages.
  • Mobile apps and point-of-sale
  • Invoicing
  • Customer management
  • Online store
  • Subscription management
  • Security and fraud prevention

In addition to your Helcim payments, you also have to pay credit card processing fees

Helcim operates using an interchange-plus pricing structure. You pay a specific rate plus cents per transaction above interchange, depending on your card issuer.

From these rates, Helcim collects a margin. The cost depends on your business (or subscription plan) and your monthly sales volume. The ‘manually keyed and online’ subscription attracts higher margins due to the riskier nature of accepting online payments.

Nevertheless, Helcim offers a volume-based processing discount. This means that as your sales volume increases, the cost of your Helcim margin decreases.

For in-person payments or retail businesses, the highest margin you can pay is 0.30% plus $0.08/transaction, while for Manually keyed and online businesses, the highest margin is 0.50% plus $0.25/transaction. These ‘highest rates’ are applicable for companies processing up to $25,000 in credit card sales per month.

The Helcim Card reader is available for $199/unit.

You can also participate in the terminal exchange program if you have a terminal that qualifies. It currently costs $75/terminal exchange.

There is also a chargeback fee of $15, which Helcim will refund if you win the dispute.

Another pricing information worth noting in this Helcim review is the Auto-Pause Billing. Your monthly fee is automatically waived if you don’t process a payment that month. You can continue to access and use your account, and the Helcim monthly fee will resume when you begin accepting payments again.

Finally, Helcim offers a free one-month trial with full access to all of its tools, as well as our great low processing rates.

Helcim Review – Verdict

Helcim is arguably the best credit card payment processing system for small businesses. Its complete transparency, low retail rates, single monthly fee, and lack of termination fee allow it to cater to the small guys.

Besides, this software features a host of tools that simplify payment processing. Its virtual terminal is particularly efficient, allowing businesses to process credit card payments from wherever they are. All these, coupled with its impressive security measures and responsive customer service, make this software a must-have. We came across a lot of positive Helcim reviews, and now we see why.

That said, there are still some limitations to the program that you might want to consider. For one, Helcim might not be the most affordable option for micro vendors, as businesses with low monthly sales volumes attract the highest Helcim fees.

Also, the company doesn’t approve high-risk businesses, so if you work in any of the high-risk industries stated on its website, there’s a good chance you won’t be able to use its services. But otherwise, it’s a great service that we highly recommend.
