What Is iMazing?

iMazing helps you manage the information on your devices. It’s used to transfer photos, files, messages, etc. between different Apple devices and your computer.

DigiDNA released “DiskAid” in 2008. It was an application to transfer files from PC to iPhone or iPod Touch as it was a hard disk. Over the years, it became popular among Apple users, so the company changed its name to iMazing

The software uses a hybrid method of backup and real-time data to access the content on your device.

There’s also an option to backup and restore your device wirelessly.

You can download iMazing for Windows and Mac OS. It’s available on the company’s official website.

There are many iMazing reviews out there, but I decided to test the software firsthand on iPhone 12, iOS 15.4.1, and Windows 10.

Let’s review in detail the software’s features.

iMazing Features

The iMazing software offers a lot of features, but are they all good?

Let’s see:

Data Management

You can transfer all kinds of data from your Apple devices to your PC or Mac or vice versa. The tool enbles you to easily drag your files with your mouse to the app or choose import and select files or folders.

It’s often mentioned in iMazing user reviews as one of the main advantages of the software.

I tried both methods and it took a couple of seconds to transfer my files.

Extract all data

Most of the time, you’ll only need to extract one type of data like:

  • photos
  • videos
  • music
  • text messages

With iMazing, you have the option to export all types of files at once with the Extract All Data tool.

This is useful for repair shops to perform data extraction and recovery in human-readable formats. For example, if your screen is broken or unresponsive and you can’t access any data on your device.

Exports

You have many different options when it comes to exporting files. It’s useful when you want to transfer data from your iPhone to your PC or Mac in different types of formats. For example, photos are converted from HEIF format to jpeg format. For notes you can choose between pdf and text format.

In addition, you can export:

  • Messages in PDF format
  • Texts from WhatsApp
  • Notes in a text document
  • Photos with good quality

I tried to download files in different formats. I only tried with a couple of photos, messages, and notes. The process is very simple and fast.

Manage Apps

Another feature of iMazing software is the App manager. It gives you the option to review your apps, check for updates and update them to their latest version. You can also uninstall them.

I tried this feature to get rid of unnecessary apps and free up some space on my phone. The process takes up less than a second to finish.

Backups

You can schedule an automatic backupThere’s an option to choose when and how frequently - daily, weekly or monthly.

iMazing is very safe - it provides encryption to your backup, so no data ever gets leaked.

Also, great news:

You don’t have to pay for cloud storage. The software saves the backup on your computer. But if you prefer you can save it on an external drive.

Another thing you can do is check for new updates and update your devices to the latest software version. iMazing can restore your iPhone and make it brand new again.

Device Management

You can supervise your devices, put them in Kiosk mode (more on that in a bit), and configure profiles.

Supervising devices enables businesses and institutes to have more control over gadgets. This enables a new set of configuration and security features like:

  • Single app mode
  • Clear passcode
  • Set wallpapers
  • Non-removable profiles
  • Deploy configuration profiles silently
  • Enforce a web content filter
  • Block Find my iPhone
  • Prevent passcode modification
  • Restrict apps
  • Restrict pairing with other computers
  • Advanced restrictions
  • Security policies

What happens when you put your device in Kiosk mode?

Kiosk mode a.k.a Single app mode on iMazing locks your iPad or other iOS devices to display a particular app.

For example, you can use it to:

  • Showcase a photography or art portfolio with the photos app
  • Lock iPod touch to a restaurant management app to manage bookings and orders
  • Lock iPad to a POS (point of sales) app for cashiers

What about configuration profiles?

This enables advanced configuration for iOS devices. Many of the settings are only applicable to supervised devices.

iMazing Photos

You can use iMazing to manage your iPhone and iPad photos. You have the option to preview content in high resolution and delete them directly from the software. Navigating between the different images and folders is extremely easy.

iMazing gives you the option to recover photos from your device. Also, you can export them to your PC by simply dragging them to your desktop.

Apple has adopted the HEIF (High-Efficiency Image File) picture format. Unfortunately, Windows 10 doesn’t support it, but the good thing is that iMazing converts them into jpeg files.

Ease of Use and Interface

The software is user-friendly, with an extremely intuitive interface.

When you open iMazing, it gives you the option to buy premium plans, enter an iMazing license code if you already have one, or continue with the free version.

iMazing interface

Then, you need to connect your device to your computer via a USB cable. You need to do this only the first time. After that, you can connect wirelessly when both your device and PC use the same Wi-Fi connection.

wireless connection

Then, you’ll see your gadget listed on the left:

iMazing options

The interface is like a big version of your device’s screen.

Now, you can use all the iMazing features. Everything is pretty self-explanatory and you don’t need any instructions. It’s well-organized and you can find everything you need pretty fast.

iMazing Pricing

Okay, I know what you’re thinking.

How much does iMazing cost?

Great news!

iMazing has a free version, but it limits the number of times you can use its features.

Here are the paid options:

iMazing Free VS Paid Version

So, which one is better?

The free version is the more temtping one, but there’s a limited amount of times that you can use the features:

  • File transfer - 100
  • Media - 50
  • Photos - 50
  • Safari data - 20
  • Messages - 10
  • Contacts - 10
  • Calendars - 10
  • Extract/Edit backup files - 10
  • Call history - 5
  • Notes - 5
  • Voice memos - 3
  • Voicemail - 1

Overall, if you want to take full advantage of the iMazing features you should invest in buying a license.

iMazing vs AnyTrans

iMazing and AnyTrans have a lot of similar features.

Let’s take a look at their similarities.

They both let you transfer data across all your Apple devices and your PC or Mac. You can export different kinds of formats.

You can create, restore and manage data backups.

Both of the apps have a nice interface. They’re user-friendly and self-explanatory. Their prices are very similar.

They’re available for Windows and Mac. However, iMazing lacks apps for Android.

Let’s take a look at their differences.

iMazing has a free version. On the other hand, with AnyTrans you can transfer 30 items for the first 3 days. After that, you need to buy a license to use it.

AnyTrans can move data not only through Apple devices but also on other smartphones and tablets. You can manage your apps and it allows you to also download new ones.

iMazing, however, only offers to uninstall unwanted applications.

With AnyTrans you can access iCloud and import or export files from there. It also has:

  • a ringtone maker
  • media downloader
  • home screen organizer
  • app downloader.

To sum up, AnyTrans has more features to offer, so I recommend giving it a try.

iMazing vs iTunes

Since Apple released the Mac operating system Catalina in 2019, iTunes has been replaced by three apps - Apple music, Podcasts, and Apple TV. It’s only available for older versions of macOS and Windows.

You can find all iPhone, iPad, and iPod backup, restore, and syncing in Finder.

iMazing offers a lot of features that iTunes doesn’t have. But let’s take a look at their similarities first.

iMazing is available for Mac and Windows, while you can download iTunes on Windows and only the older versions of Mac.

You can do a backup on your phone or restore your iPhone with both of the software.

You can also transfer files between your Apple device and your PC or Mac. But on iTunes, the whole process is a little too complicated.

iTunes was designed simply for a sync tool, but it’s too confusing to use.

What are their differences?

Unlike iTunes, iMazing can export and print iMessages and data from an old iOS device directly to a new one.

iMazing is a freemium software and iTunes is free of charge.

Which one do I recommend?

Overall, iTunes is no longer relevant, so you may want to choose iMazing or alternative software.

iMazing Customer Support

As part of this iMazing review, I tested customer support.

I contacted them with some basic questions about the iMazing features.

When I texted them, the website said that their reps would contact me within 24 to 48 hours.

I was pleasantly surprised when I received an email from them within 4 hours since I sent it. They were helpful and exhaustive with their answers.

Verdict

Although it may be a little pricey, iMazing is worth it.

The software’s interface is user-friendly and self-explanatory. It also has a lot to offer in terms of features.

The best part - the customer support is great, so you’ll always get help when its needed.

Give the free version a try - you won’t regret it!
