Managed cloud extended
Kamatera is one of the notable cloud hosting providers on the market. With it, you get a wide variety of flexible plans that are easy to configure. You can also deploy resource-hungry applications without compromising on performance.
Kamatera reviews are mainly positive, so we decided to take a look at its:
- Ease of use
- Customer support
Let’s get started.
What is Kamatera?
Kamatera is a well-known hosting provider that offers affordable solutions to businesses. The company was founded in 1995 by Israeli entrepreneur, Yohay Azulay. At that time, the industry lacked the advanced infrastructure for meeting the growing demand of enterprises. The founder jumped on the opportunity to cover the gap.
The host first began providing custom shared plans to customers. By 2002, it had included virtual private server (VPS) technology on its list of products. Actually, Kamatera was among the first to move infrastructure to the cloud.
The company currently caters to thousands of customers globally. They include SaaS providers, multinationals, app developers, and start-ups. Such an impressive portfolio proves that Kamatera is worth your attention.
Kamatera Inc. operates thousands of servers spread across 13 data centers worldwide. Nearly half of them are located in the company’s home country of Israel. Other regions include the United States, Canada, Netherlands, etc.
The hardware consists of Intel CPUs, SSD storage, and scalable RAM for meeting any hosting demand. Everything runs on a 600Gbit network backbone for the speedy delivery of content. An in-house content delivery network (CDN) is available as well. It ensures services run smoothly during traffic spikes and server failures.
All computing infrastructure is built on a foolproof architecture. The company uses multiple tier-1 fiber carriers for providing core routing. These serve as redundant uplink/downlink channels for the transfer of data. There’s also an N+1 system that instantaneously switches to backup generators during a power failure.
And that’s not all. Security is top-notch in all of Kamatera’s datacenters. Only authorized personnel are granted entry into the premises. Surveillance is done through CCTVs and sensors that track all movements. In addition, the technical team monitors all traffic to stop any cyber threats.
Here’s what this tool can do for you:
Getting started with Kamatera express is pretty easy. You can set your server in a snap and configure CPU, RAM, SSD space, and bandwidth to your liking. Users can basically add a limitless amount of resources.
No need to worry if you have a strict budget. There’s a price calculator to limit your spending.
The host gives you a choice of 9+ operating systems – CentOS, CloudLinux, Ubuntu, Debian, Windows, and more. You are allowed to install a custom one if yours is missing from this list. You can add another premium add ons for optimizing the overall experience, like cPanel/Plesk, daily backups, dedicated IPs, etc.
Geolocation allows customers to select servers that are closest to their visitors. Even if you go with the default one, your audience will still get fast content access regardless of location.
Ease of Use
Kamatera console makes managing your server an easy task. Its clean and minimalistic design appeals to all.
You can set up a billing profile, generate reports, and access activity logs with no difficulty. You get a statistics tool for tracking resource usage. All details are presented in beautiful graphs with different color codes. Below it, you’ll find performance details of the CPU broken down into percentages. Unfortunately, it doesn’t track traffic.
A one-click installer for applications is present. It supports popular apps such as WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla. Plesk, cPanel, PHP, and other services can be configured from here as well.
It’s the user management options that stood out to us while writing this Kamatera review. You can add more sub-users to your account and assign roles accordingly. Great for agencies and people working with teams.
Kamatera Remote Desktop
Remote desktop protocol (RDP) allows you to manage hosting without accessing your account. You can perform a wide range of tasks by using it. However, it requires you to use other operating systems such as Windows OS, Mac, and Linux.
This feature is a timesaver. Since your PC is in sync with the cloud, any changes made locally are immediately reflected. Resource monitoring is bliss. You can track bandwidth usage, CPU/RAM performance, and active sessions.
Another notable mention is the centralization of software management. Users can install an application in one virtual machine and access it from multiple computers. This translates to huge savings for enterprises that depend on commercial apps.
When your audience grows, being able to add more resources should be a priority. Among Kamatera’s top benefits are its easy-to-scale servers. You can at any point beef up CPU, RAM, and storage. You can even maximize performance at a low cost.
Users can also downgrade as they wish just to stay within budget. Just use the customer console from the dashboard to revise your hosting accordingly. In case you get stuck, do reach out to your account manager for assistance.
Kamatera offers a robust web application firewall (WAF) for server protection. It’s configured to run in the cloud and effectively shield users from outside attacks. It blocks malware, viruses, and DDoS attacks.
Apart from that, the system does a tremendous job of filtering suspicious traffic. This helps to keep bad bots and spam away from your site. It also blocks open ports.
The protection tab shows the history of events. Advanced users will appreciate it – they can use the details to make further adjustments. For example, you can use root access to block IPs and geo-restrict your app/website.
Overall, using WAF speeds up the performance of your projects. It limits activities that would have otherwise resulted in high latency and slow server output. As Kamatera reviews suggest, its high accessibility delivers a smooth experience to users at all times.
Kamatera cloud comes with load balancers. The set up works by interconnecting web servers for maintaining simultaneous connections. It offers numerous advantages such as low ping time, fast delivery of content, and service availability.
During peak times, the system is configured to evenly distribute load across the network. This works through efficient routing of TCP, UDP, and HTTP requests to less busy servers. It enhances session persistence by reducing interruption.
This service comes at an extra cost. The good thing is, it’s charged on a pay-as-you-go basis. There are no long-term contracts and you get to foot the bill based on per-second billing. A very pocket-friendly option.
You’ll also find block storage among Kamatera’s features. This technology offers an affordable way for storing large chunks of data. Since it’s cloud-based users can access the files on-demand.
You get to avoid other costs associated with hosting. All you have to do is pay for SSD space, and that’s it. There’s no need for adding CPU and RAM. Free bandwidth is also a huge plus. Kamatera doesn’t charge a dime for any uploads/downloads that you perform.
This feature best serves as a remote backup computer. You can expand your main system’s disk and archive files as well. Other than that, it does offer some relief when conducting upgrades. It allows easy duplication of data across different sets of servers.
The eCommerce options were among our favorite parts to write about in this Kamatera review. There are amazing tools for accelerating sales. You’ll find X-cart for organizing the items that customers wish to purchase. It offers easy ordering and top-class security for your store. You can enable reCaptcha to prevent spam and forced logins to user accounts.
There are hundreds of templates for your online shop courtesy of CubeCart. They’re not only stunning but also mobile compatible. The themes are 100% open source, giving you the opportunity to customize everything.
An extensions market is available on both X-cart and CubeCart. You can use it to add extra functionality to your website. All-in-one shipping is the most notable one. It supports major global shippers such as USPS, FedEx, UPS, and others alike.
You have a choice of two content management systems (CMS), namely Magento and WooCommerce. The former is feature-packed, great for running large ecommerce platforms. On the downside, it’s both resource-hungry and suitable for developers. The latter is the better option for it runs on WordPress. Kamatera reviews praise it for being flexible, customizable, and easy to use.
Other than the above nitty-gritty, there’s a team of dedicated experts waiting to offer assistance. They do help with server configuration, store optimization, and activity monitoring. After all, it’s fully managed so you shouldn’t shy away from asking anything.
Disaster Recovery Management
Kamatera Inc. offers disaster recovery in all hosting plans. The service shields you from ever losing your data. It supports Microsoft’s SharePoint, Exchange, and SQL server. It also works well for any type of information/application stored in your cloud.
During disasters, getting back online does take time. However, this feature updates your Kamatera IP over the network fast. When combined with instant server reinstallation, expect service interruptions to be minimal at best. You don’t even have to break a sweat. Just let the company’s team of experts do the dirty work.
Most hosts limit bandwidth, but that’s not the case with Kamatera. It’s unlimited. It is ideal for running resource-intensive websites without worrying about costs. However, one thing we were unimpressed with was the allocation. The speeds are capped at 50Mb/s despite being connected to a 10Gbit/s port.
You can utilize the entire connectivity on the network. But note that your usage will be limited to a maximum of 5TB/Month. Kamatera’s cloud pricing for metered connections applies here. Once you exhaust your monthly quota, it will set you back an additional $0.01/GB. We personally won’t be losing any sleep over that one.
Users are assured of a 99.95% uptime guarantee. As per Kamatera’s SLA, this means service unavailability not exceeding 8 hours per year. Anything outside the mentioned time frame warrants possible compensation.
As per the refund policy, you shall be entitled to a month’s worth of free hosting. That sounds good, but the wording isn’t right. It claims that the offer is an act of good faith. This means that events arising beyond Kamatera’s control will be excluded.
Some of them include corrupt backups, scheduled maintenance, data breaches, etc. The list is virtually endless. However, we couldn’t find any complaints about those in Kamatera reviews.
Kamatera Speed Test
For this Kamatera review, we signed up for a free account. This gave us the opportunity to deploy our server and set up a simple website. Thanks to the customer console, the process was quick.
We relied on a number of tools to conduct tests. Fastorslow.com by WordFence is the first one. It measures the network ping of a host from 18+ regions from around the world. And boy oh boy, the speed was nothing short of impressive. It recorded an average of 30ms.
Next, we headed over to Webpagetest.org for a couple of checks. We managed to obtain the time to first byte (TTFB) of approximately 200ms. This shows that it takes the blink of an eye for the server to fulfill end-user requests.
Your visitors should expect webpages to load fully in under 2 seconds. Keep in mind that we didn’t include CDN in this experiment. With a few optimizations, you can get superior performance.
You can choose from:
Unmanaged hosting provides an affordable solution for leasing a powerful server at a bargain. It best suits webmasters with technical know-how. You can either go with pre-configured virtual machines or create one for yourself.
This is where you’ll need the services of Kamatera Express the most. You can configure CPU, RAM, storage, and IPs. The calculator is straightforward for even the novice of users. This is a great way to control your monthly bills.
Despite being unmanaged, security and maintenance are handled at no extra cost. The company has a team of network administrators that always keep the systems in check. You can also temporarily pay for managed support. You can get it for $0.073/hour.
Managed hosting is a suitable option for the non-tech savvy. With this plan, Kamatera’s technical staff does the hard work of handling your server.
You can opt for CMS platforms such as WordPress to host your site. It offers plenty of tools to help you get around. These include drag-drop website builders, productivity and security plugins, and tons of free templates.
Unfortunately, Kamatera managed cloud a bit pricey. It costs upwards of $50/month. But just as we’ve mentioned under unmanaged, it’s flexible. You can opt for per hour billing to keep your expenses low.
The Kamatera reseller plan is a great option for agencies and freelancers. You can go two ways: reselling or white label hosting.
The first one gives clients great discounts to resell. To benefit from this, you have to make bulk purchases. You’ll have access to a billing tool for generating individual invoices for your customers.
White label hosting is the other alternative. It gives users a lot of features to customize services. You can rebrand, set your prices, and host services from your website. Kamatera’s powerful API is included in the mix. With it, you can remotely control the servers using custom applications.
Kamatera’s support is available round the clock. However, it’s not the best one out there. Even they responded fast via live chat, the agents seem uninformed. They just told us to reach out to our account manager. The funny thing is, he routed our request to the technical team. Finally, after waiting for 2 hours we did receive help.
It was the most strenuous part of our Kamatera review process. Despite our experience, we couldn’t find any complaints from customers about it.
Other than that, it would be great to see a knowledge base integrated in the future. That will help save time in resolving common issues faced by users.
How does Kamatera compare to other similar services?
Kamatera vs Vultr
Vultr is one of Kamatera’s biggest competitors in the industry. It offers an affordable cloud hosting solution for all users. The vendor provides a resource manager based on price. You can configure CPU/RAM at ease. The cost calculator gives you the pending price on the side too.
Kamatera is much cheaper, though. You can switch between hourly billing to keep your expenses low. It offers the same amount of resources at Vultr for half the price. Other than that, both services compete on the same level in terms of performance.
In case you need a wider coverage, get Vultr. It has a total of 17+ data centers in 10 countries across 4 continents. That’s 23% percent better than its peer. Still, Kamatera stands out for flexibility, affordability, and ease-of-use.
Kamatera vs Digital Ocean
DigitalOcean is a big player in the hosting industry. Despite being 9 years old, it has managed to win the trust of major corporations. These include the likes of WeWork, Slack, and GitLab. Its standout features include a 1-click app marketplace, easy scalability, and powerful server analytics.
The company has a price calculator on its website. It’s not as flexible as Kamatera’s, but it displays a comparison of the rates against popular cloud service providers. Think names such as Google Cloud, Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
DigitalOcean might leave you with the impression that it is cheaper. However, a quick comparison shows that Kamatera cloud has unbeatable deals.
Another thing is you don’t get the option to configure resources as you like. DigitalOcean’s calculator doesn’t allow you to independently set CPU, RAM, and storage. As you upgrade, your cost of hosting may reach unbearable levels.
To settle the score, DigitalOcean has affordable cloud server plans. It offers 100% uptime that’s great for running uninterrupted services. In contrast, Kamatera’s flexible resource management is ideal for users working on a budget. You also get more resources.
Kamatera vs Azure
Azure is a popular cloud service by Microsoft. It offers 200+ plus products for enterprises with a high appetite for hosting. Just as Kamatera, users get 30 days to test the waters for free. The vendor invests $1 billion yearly on the security of the network. It’s for this reason that 95% of fortune 500 companies trust its services.
Azure best suits developers. Its servers are configured to work well across a wide range of industries. This includes artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, virtual reality, and data analytics. Clearly, that’s way out of line with what Kamatera has to offer.
If you’re working on a budget, Kamatera’s hosting plans are your best bet. You can limit your spending based on resource usage. Likewise, the company does support a number of advanced features. This includes the internet of things (IoT), voice over internet protocol (VoIP), and app server.
Kamatera vs AWS
AWS provides powerful resources for supporting any type of service. Notable mentions include Facebook, Netflix, Twitch, and more. These companies spend $10+ million on average per month on this vendor. After all, it ranks first globally in cloud hosting.
AWS doesn’t make onboarding easy. It uses technical names on its website making it hard for novice users to navigate. A good example is the cost calculator. Using it is downright unpleasant.
Kamatera doesn’t stand a chance in the battle of the titans. But it’s still a capable underdog. The company provides an easy-to-use console with step-by-step guidance. Using it takes a few minutes to deploy a server. The pricing is transparent too. You only pay for what you use.
Kamatera’s cloud pricing is as follows:
- Unmanaged cloud servers–$4.00/Month.
- Managed cloud basic–$50.00/Month.
- Managed cloud extended–$120.00/Month.
The company doesn’t have a refund policy. You do get a 30-day free trial, but you have to enter your credit card details first. Though that’s a turnoff, it’s effective for preventing abuse.
Kamatera Review – Verdict
Kamatera inc. is a reliable hosting platform for small businesses and enterprises. It provides a long list of features for deploying any type of app/website. Еxpect flexible pricing, easy-to-configure servers, and fast network.
The console is one of the best. Anyone can use it regardless of whether you’re a beginner or an expert. A resource manager is here as well. You can tweak your servers to the maximum while keeping a close eye on spending.
As highlighted earlier in this Kamatera review, support can get better. It’s good to have live chat support. However, it’s of no importance when agents refer you to your account manager. We couldn’t even get straight answers to the simplest of questions.
Overall, you can take advantage of the 30-day free trial to see for yourself if that’s the tool for you.
Kamatera Inc. is owned by Israeli techpreneur, Yohay Azulay. He set up the company in 1995 to offer affordable hosting to businesses. Over the years, the host has remained a pacesetter in the market. It was among the first vendors to adopt VPS and cloud technology. The move gave it the advantage of surviving in an industry that was increasingly becoming competitive.
Kamatera is a global provider of cloud services to small businesses and enterprises. It has a network of 13+ data centers spread across 4 continents globally. Services are delivered via an in-built CDN running on a 600Gbit multi-network backbone. Other than that, pricing is favorable to all types of users. You can either go with pre-configured plans or configure one yourself.
It is. In case you’re in doubt, the company has a 30-day free trial. That’s more than enough time to test their legitimacy. Before you sign up, there’s a calculator that you can use to check the pricing. It’s also important to note that you’ll need to attach a valid credit card. You don’t have to worry about it. As covered in our Kamatera review, it’s effective for preventing abuse of the service.
