What Is Livestorm?

Livestorm is a video engagement platform designed for hosting or attending meetings and webinars from your browser.

It launched in 2016 and is optimized for authentically interacting with your viewers. It supports different workflows, customizable registration pages, email automation, and more.

Using Livestorm’s end-to-end analytics, you can glean valuable insights and effortlessly push your leads down the engagement funnel.

Popularity-wise, most Livestorm reviews point out that it’s the real deal. Many users have even switched to it from Zoom – arguably the most popular video conferencing app today.

So, is this platform really that good?

Join me as I cover the most important Livestorm pros and cons.

Livestorm Features

Livestorm is constantly evolving, and its team frequently holds votes on proposals for new features to employ.

Here’s what Livestorm can do right now, what’s still missing in its functionality, and what changes are in the offing.

Compatibility

Livestorm is cloud-based software, and you don’t need to download an app to use it. It works on all major web browsers, which is partly why many users gravitate toward it.

Although there’s no Livestorm Android or iOS app to download, the software supports most mobile devices.

Livestorm has wide compatibility. But having the wrong browser version may result in at least a 15-second delay.

  • Real-time streaming
      • Chrome 60 or up
      • Firefox 71 or up
      • Opera 60 or up
      • Safari 12.1 or up
      • Edge 79 or up
      • iOS 12.1 or up (with Safari)
      • Android
  • Delayed streaming
    • Edge versions older than 79
    • Safari 9 to 12.0.3
    • Internet Explorer 11
    • iOS 12.1 or up (with a non-Safari browser)
    • iOS 10 to 12.0

If your browser version is older than the ones above, you won’t be able to access Livestorm at all.

Workspaces

Livestorm’s workspaces are essentially various brands with unique profiles. That’s why each can have its own company name, tagline, description, logo, website address, and contact details.

If you wish to host Livestorm webinars for multiple brands, you don’t need to create separate accounts. However, you’ll have to subscribe to the Enterprise plan.

You can learn more about the different subscriptions in the Livestorm Pricing section.

Roles

On Livestorm, the workspace owner is the account creator. This role lets you add and remove team members and delete workspaces.

You can label a team member as either a host or a moderator. The former has complete control over the event, while the latter has some restrictions.

Additionally, you can allow guests to enter the room before the event starts. They can also do a presentation or help moderate it.

You can admit as many registrants as you can attract, but not all of them can attend your live events.

By default, your attendees are just viewers. They can’t see each other, nor can they share their webcam live feeds or audio with one another.

However, they can interact with you through various means. The host, moderator, or guest speaker can invite any member of your audience on stage too.

Instant Meetings

Using the Livestorm meeting platform, you can set up and run virtual meetings with just a few clicks. You can create multiple rooms and include between 4 and 16 participants.

By integrating the Livestorm meeting software with your calendar app, you can also schedule video conferences with your team members in advance.

Events

Livestorm permits hosting up to 3,000 live attendees. That’s a far cry from the 10,000 participants Zoom can handle, but it’s still better than WebinarNinja’s limit of 1,000 viewers.

The Livestorm team has been considering hosting events for more than 3,000 attendees. However, unlike EasyWebinar, this software probably won’t be able to accommodate large-scale live events anytime soon.

Nevertheless, the Livestorm video quality can be high-definition. If you have the bandwidth, you’ll be able to host crisp meetings, demos, tutorials, and employee onboarding sessions.

Livestorm isn’t the e-learning platform Thinkific is, but you can still create event series similar to interactive online courses. For convenience, your audience can register for multiple sessions at once.

If you can’t fit hosting live events in your schedule, you don’t have to. You can simply record your videos in advance and set them to automatically start on a specified date.

To give your audience flexibility, you can also host on-demand webinars so that your viewers can watch them whenever they want.

Apart from producing paid events, you can create ones by invitation only. These private events are perfect for targeting specific attendees.

Breakout Rooms

Creating breakout rooms means splitting your single event into smaller ones and assigning attendees to each.

At the time of writing this Livestorm webinar software review, this feature is still in beta. You can request access, but there’s no telling how long you’ll have to wait to get in.

In this aspect, Livestorm is behind the curve. More refined apps like ClickMeeting can already create tens of breakout rooms (each with dozens of participants) in one go.

Registration

On Livestorm, you can customize your registration pages to suit your needs. Aside from embedding forms, modifying their fields, and tweaking the text, you can include your branding elements too.

You can also filter out unwanted registrants by accepting only the ones with the proper work emails.

Registrant Moderation

Currently, Livestorm public webinars still require registration. But you can also deny access to certain registrants and decide who can and who can’t connect to your event.

Emailing Tools

Livestorm boasts a ton of email capabilities.

It lets you import your contacts and effortlessly invite them to your event. Not only that, it can help you personalize email campaigns using different variables.

After sending your invites, Livestorm can automatically send reminders and do follow-ups to boost participation. It can keep you posted on the status of your emails too.

Dial-In by Phone

Livestorm participants can dial in and take part by phone, which is great for attendees with poor internet connection.

Backgrounds

To produce professional-looking webinars, you can customize or blur your background on Livestorm. It’s a handy feature that lets you create high-quality content without an expensive studio.

Screensharing

If you’re using Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Safari 13 or up, you can share your computer screen with your audience.

To use screen sharing seamlessly, Firefox and Safari are your safest bets.

If you use Chrome and, for some reason, have the 71 version or older, it won’t work. The software will prompt you to get the Livestorm extension for Chrome first.

The same goes for using Opera 58 or older, though the company doesn’t have a native solution to the problem on this browser.

One workaround is to install the Chrome Extensions add-on first. Once you have it, you’ll be able to download the Livestorm extension for Chrome.

However, it’s worth noting that the extension’s last update was on October 19, 2016.

Also, screen sharing for mobile devices is not supported yet. One viable solution is connecting your smartphone or tablet to your desktop and sharing the content from there.

PowerPoint (PPT) Sharing

Contrary to what some Livestorm reviews suggest, this software is compatible with PPT presentations. However, you have to use screensharing to display your slides.

Otherwise, you may need a third-party app to pull it off and may experience technical difficulties, particularly audio problems.

Some users have been complaining about it since 2020, at least. The good news is that PPT file sharing is likely one of the next features the company will add. You can vote for it now to accelerate its inclusion.

YouTube Video Sharing

You can incorporate any YouTube video into your Livestorm event. You just need to paste the link to your chosen content, and you’re good to go.

This capability is a big deal because 500 hours of YouTube content go live every 60 seconds. By leveraging this mega streaming platform, you can enrich your Livestorm webinar with the help of free high-quality footage.

Iframe Mode

In Iframe mode, you can broadcast live video streams from external sources into your event room. So far, you can stream from Twitch and YouTube Live.

But can you do it the other way around?

Not yet.

That’s a shame since even GetResponse (which isn’t a webinar app to the core) supports livestreaming on YouTube and Facebook.

Fortunately, Livestorm is now teasing a similar feature.

stream to other platforms

Call-to-Action (CTA) Display

Want to boost your site traffic, recommend a relevant webinar, or promote an affiliate link?

Livestorm lets you paste multiple CTAs throughout your event. This is a good way to engage attendees during your presentation’s key moments.

Audience Interaction

The Livestorm app provides you with plenty of options to communicate with your audience.

It has a built-in chat, enabling you to respond to your attendees’ questions and feedback during the event. Likewise, you can initiate Q&A sessions or polls mid-webinar and see answers in real-time.

Furthermore, you can invite participants to speak and immediately notify those who ask questions when you answer.

Unlimited Replays

Livestorm lets you automatically record live events and send them to all registrants afterward.

Additionally, those who have failed to attend can enjoy unlimited playbacks after your broadcast.

Moreover, there’s no replay storage cap, so you can provide full access to every Livestorm recording you create.

Event Promotion and Publication

Livestorm is more than just event hosting. It makes promotion and publication easy too.

The company has a full media kit – an abundant source of quality images you can use to advertise your Livestorm live or on-demand webinar. The images come in different dimensions, so you should always be able to find the right one.

To expand your reach, you can also download your recordings in MP4 and upload them to your YouTube channel to expand your reach. Making your older events available to the public can bring additional value to your prospective customers. It’s also an excellent promotional tool that can entice viewers to sign up for more.

However, if you don’t use YouTube, you can publish your old webinars on your company page as well.

Analytics

Livestorm provides you with the details of registrant profiles to help you learn more about your prospective attendees. What’s more, it can track the source of your registrations and who referred them.

The analytics tool is built into the Livestorm platform. This webinar software automatically generates event and participation reports, from which you can glean important insights.

Besides monitoring which of your contacts frequently attend your events, you can also easily access your replay numbers.

Above all, 100% of the data you generate on Livestorm is downloadable.

Livestorm Integrations

You can connect Livestorm to Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Slack, and thousands of other pieces of software.

The Livestorm library has only 40 items across 11 categories, but one of them is Zapier. This integration enables you to link your account to any of the 3,000+ apps in Zapier’s directory. In short, you can automate almost any workflow.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can request a new integration in less than a minute.

Moreover, if you’re a software developer, you can build your own Livestorm plugins with minimal coding. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced coder, the company’s powerful SDK on Github makes the process easy.

If you prefer building integrations over creating plugins, you can take advantage of the company’s API. Livestorm’s Developers Portal contains all of the documents you need to get started.

Interface and Ease of Use

Registration on this platform is simple. The system accepts masked emails, which is a good sign that Livestorm values your security and privacy. After confirming your email address, you can get started right away.

The whole process takes less than a minute to complete.

Livestorm’s interface is as clean and modern as they come. Here’s what your dashboard would look like if you create a new account with the free trial:

interface and ease of use

Livestorm’s design could use a little more simplicity, though. It would’ve been easier if you could add team members directly on the People tab instead of going through the account settings.

However, I did love its handy document search tool. If anything confuses you, you can immediately look for insightful reads and find a solution.

What’s a bit disappointing is the number of available languages. The only options are English, French, and Spanish. Nonetheless, you can translate your events to up to 24 languages.

Livestorm Pricing

Livestorm uses the freemium webinar pricing model and offers three plans: Starter, Premium, and Enterprise.

Only the Premium plan is available in monthly and annual subscriptions and the price changes based on the number of hosts and live attendees you require.

The Enterprise option charges you per monthly active contact. So, Livestorm will cost more as more unique individuals register, attend your events, and watch their replays.

However, the company won’t charge you for the same active user every month.

There’s no Livestorm free trial for Premium and Enterprise, but Starter is free forever

Let’s check out how the free and premium packages differ in features:

Starter

To sign up for a Livestorm subscription, you can only use credit or debit cards and pay in USD or EUR. However, the company may accept wire transfers if you’re going with the Enterprise plan.

All subscriptions auto-renew and come with no money-back guarantee. You can cancel anytime, but you can’t ask for a refund. That’s why you ought to maximize the Livestorm free plan before ordering.

Support

Livestorm’s help desk is online 16 hours a day, Mondays through Fridays.

Sales and technical support via email are accessible to everyone, but the chat representatives assist paying subscribers exclusively.

And you’ll get to have live conversations only if you become an Enterprise subscriber. Getting this top-tier package also entitles you to dedicated support from your preferred point of contact within the company.

When available, Livestorm’s email reps are highly responsive – I was able to get a reply within 24 hours.

Regarding self-service options, the company has an extensive knowledge base.

First, you have the Help Center, which features video tutorials and articles on how to use the Livestorm app.

There’s also the Content Library with a great collection of free ebooks, templates, and webinars. Its blog has at least 39 pages of tips on building compelling events.

Lastly, you can watch Livestorm on-demand and live webinar demos at no cost.

Livestorm Review - Verdict

Livestorm is a great piece of software but also has its inadequacies.

I was happy with its workable free edition, which has no event cap and doesn’t expire.

The flexible paid plans give you considerable leeway to scale up or down. However, I recommend doing some research before committing to a subscription since the company doesn’t issue refunds.

Although I consider Livestorm’s live attendee limit of 3,000 a weakness, it’s still way better than many industry leaders.

What’s inexcusable is its limited PPT support and the lack of key features like closed captioning.

Having said that, I’m confident that more Livestorm features are on the horizon.

So, is Livestorm ready for prime time?

I can make a case for and against it. But one thing’s for sure: it’s worth checking out.

FAQ.

Why use Livestorm?

Livestorm is useful for hosting meetings, online courses, live events, podcasts, employee onboarding sessions, and product demos.

Livestorm has integrations for thousands of third-party apps, allowing you to easily automate workflows.

Besides hosting live and pre-recorded video events, Livestorm facilitates promotion, publication, and analytics.

As a freemium piece of software, you can get started in no time without entering your billing information.

How good is Livestorm?

Livestorm is a capable platform. However, its overall functionality is somewhat wanting. It doesn’t support direct PPT file sharing and closed captions, and doesn’t allow more than 3,000 attendees.

Nevertheless, Livestorm is likely on the verge of adding such capabilities to its arsenal. And even without them, it’s still one of the best meeting and webinar programs of its kind today.

Is Livestorm safe?

Livestorm is a France-headquartered company that abides by the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Its GDPR compliance means EU citizens enjoy the right to know how it handles their data – from collection to deletion. Moreover, I saw no security red flags while researching for this Livestorm review.
