What is the most cumbersome part of getting a brand new phone?
Transferring all your data. Especially if you want to upgrade from Android to iPhone, or vice versa.
Luckily, there are ways around this.
In this MobileTrans review, let’s take a look at one useful app, and its list of features.
Highlights
Simply put, MobileTrans is an app for PC and Mac that lets you transfer files between phones. This is ideal if you are planning on switching from Android to an iPhone, or the opposite.
Furthermore, it has a free trial, if you want to check it out, before committing.
You probably won’t need to, though, because we did the hard work for you.
Transferring files from one phone to another is MobileTrans’s main selling point. But it’s far from all it can do.
MobileTrans can transfer data to a new phone regardless of either phone’s brand or operating system. All you need to do is connect both phones to your computer through USB. Then let the program do its thing.
Running an old phone?
No worries, even the oldest Android and iOS phones will work. Unfortunately for Windows Phone users, however, MobileTrans only supports Windows 8 or above.
MobileTrans can backup virtually everything from one phone to another. This includes, but is not limited to:
The process of phone transfer depends on how much data you want to pass on. Do keep in mind the operation can sometimes take up to a few hours.
There is one caveat – the software requires you to change your default SMS app during the transfer process. This is only if you want to move your messages from a phone running Android 4.4 or higher.
And despite MobileTrans’s reassurance that it will tell me how to revert the setting after the process, that did not happen.
But once that’s done, you will have all your data safe and sound on your new device.
MobileTrans can transfer WhatsApp data from one phone to another. This includes all messages, as well as any video and images you may have stored.
In addition, MobileTrans can backup messages:
Furthermore, you can use MobileTrans to backup your messages from your smartphone to your computer. This works with:
All you have to do is connect your phones to your computer via USB, and then the process will begin.
Do you have a file on your computer that you would like to have on your phone?
Cloud-based transfer apps can sometimes work, but they are not always reliable with large files.
However, with the MobileTrans app, you can connect your phone to your computer and transfer files between them. You will need to enable USB debugging – the software will guide you through the process.
Once that’s done, you will be able to import any file from your computer to your phone. You can even select the folder to which you want your new file to be transferred.
When connected, the MobileTrans app will present you with a list of your phone’s directories. From there, you can navigate to the place where the files you want to be transferred are located. The entire process is happening through your computer.
If your phone is host to files you consider valuable, you probably know how important backups are.
The good news is, MobileTrans can help you with that too.
The not-so-good news – there are a few hiccups.
While testing the program for this MobileTrans review, the program repeatedly ran into issues trying to back up the files. Oftentimes, a red exclamation mark would appear, indicating the backup had failed.
Furthermore, for whatever reason, the program did not let me back up a number of files. Photos, videos, and text messages were fine. But when it came to things like wallpapers, ringtones, or reminders, I was not able to. It’s possible this was due to the limitations of the free trial, but it wasn’t very clear.
On the occasion that you do get it to work, however, you will have your data stored in a BAK format on your computer. Then, you can restore them whenever you want onto your phone.
Unfortunately, I encountered issues with this feature as well.
All was fine with WhatsApp. However, the program could not recognize my phone if I selected the Viber, Kik, or WeChat option.
One thing you will see praised time and time again in user MobileTrans reviews is the program’s interface.
And it’s true – the app looks very elegant and modern.
The menus are easy to navigate, given the number of features the software offers.
That being said, the free version does contain occasional pop-up ads. As far as ease of use goes, I already touched on some of the technical bugs and issues that you can encounter. Those can definitely hinder the experience.
Now, the MobileTrans app for Mac and PC does offer customer support. However, as far as I could tell, the only options are either by calling (US-based), or sending an email.
But what about live chat?
Well.
Wondershare’s website does say live chat is an option. But all it is is an automated chatbot with no option to contact a support agent. It is possible I missed a button buried somewhere beneath the ocean of menus, but I doubt it.
According to other MobileTrans user reviews, I’m not the only one to find this annoying.
The app has a free trial and a couple of paid plans.
First, however, there’s something important to note – if you’re looking to use MobileTrans for Android to iPhone transfers, you will need to upgrade.
Now.
On to the free version.
To start, the software lets you backup your phone and app data for free. The import and export feature, however, is available for free “for a limited time” – how long, I do now know.
If you are on the fence about making a purchase, MobileTrans offers free phone transfer of ten files. But if you want to take advantage of the full feature set, you will have to choose a price plan.
The Windows version of the software goes as follows:
Plan | Pricing | Details | |
Windows/Phone transfer | $29.99/year | This plan gives you access to the marquee feature of transferring data between phones. It is also available as a one-time purchase for $39.99. | Visit |
Windows/WhatsApp transfer | $29.99/year | This allows you to transfer WhatsApp and LINE data from phone to phone. You also can export your messages and attachments. The plan is available as a one-time purchase for $39.99. | Visit |
Windows/Full features | $39.99/year | This plan combines both the features of the Phone transfer and the WhatsApp transfer plans. It is also available as a one-time purchase for $49.99. | Visit |
The MobileTrans app for Mac, however, is pricier. The options there include:
Plan | Pricing | Details | |
Mac/Phone transfer | $44.99/year | Or a one-time purchase of $59.99. | Visit |
Mac/WhatsApp transfer | $44.99/year | Or a one-time purchase of $59.99. | Visit |
Mac/Full features | $54.99/year | Or a one-time purchase of $69.99. | Visit |
All versions of the software contain free updates and a seven-day money-back guarantee. Student discounts are also available.
One thing to keep in mind.
Each purchase of the software is a license restricted to one computer only. This means if you want to have copies of the program across multiple PCs, you will have to purchase it again.
MobileTrans is a data transfer program for Windows and Mac which is easy to use and navigate. It is ideal for transferring your previous phone’s data to a new one, especially if they have different operating systems.
It can also backup your phone data to your computer and subsequently restore it if it ever gets lost. You can also backup and restore your WhatsApp, Viber, and Kik data, among others. You can even move it to another mobile device entirely!
It sounds great – when it works.
Sadly, you will experience the occasional technical bug here and there. And the transferring process isn’t always successful. Depending on how many files you’re lugging, it can even take several hours.
The free version will let you backup your phone and app data. You can also make use of the trial of the phone transfer feature, though that is limited to ten files maximum.
For the full feature set, you will have to purchase a premium version.
Although it can be clumsy at times, MobileTrans can copy data to Android and iOS with fairly few restrictions.
Why not give it a try and see for yourself?
MobileTrans is safe to use. Scanning the program yielded no signs of malware, and it won’t try to inject any unwanted files to your phone.
The free version of MobileTrans lets you backup your phone and app data to your computer. It also lets you move files from your computer to your mobile device and vice versa. However, if you want to transfer your data from one phone to another, you will need to purchase a premium plan.
