So what is Noom’s philosophy? The people behind it believe that using psychology-backed research coupled with behavioral approaches can help you develop healthier eating habits. This will result in long-term weight loss. You’ll be able to talk to real-life coaches to help you set realistic goals and keep you accountable throughout your Noom weight loss journey.
How Does Noom Work?
After you get the app, you’ll have to answer a series of questions about your current weight, body goals, lifestyle, and health issues. The software will then assign you a coach who can help you meet your goals. The Noom food directory contains data about thousands of food products, including things like ingredient information, nutritional breakdown, and calorie content. This way, you’ll never find yourself guessing or calculating your calorie consumption, as the app does it for you.
To log in food or drinks, you can either look for an item in the search bar or use its barcode. The latter mostly works with stuff you’ve gotten from the grocery store. Once you’ve found the food, you can then add the number of servings you’ve had. You can also log your water intake.

The app has a lot of behavior modification articles, designed to transform the way you think about food and help you break your bad eating habits.
Noom prides itself in being able to use behavioral psychology and biology to educate its users on a variety of topics – weight management, fitness, and how stress and boredom can affect eating habits, etc. You’ll get fun and short articles and interactive content like quizzes and challenges.
Every day new articles and quizzes will show up on your daily to-do list. In a couple of minutes, you can learn about things like temptation bundling and the body’s release of hormones during hunger and feeding. You’ll find out how these relate to weight cutting, and how to deal with them.
The articles are written in a fun and quirky manner to keep users engaged. As you progress through the program though, the tone changes to more serious and educational.
Food Color System
Noom uses a color-coded system similar to traffic lights. Foods are classified as green, yellow, and red to help you navigate your way around healthy eating.
Green foods are mostly fruits and vegetables that have high water content. Yellow foods are high in protein, such as meat and legumes. Finally, red foods are high in fat, sugar, and carbs, such as fast food.
When you first start using the Noom app, it asks you a series of questions about your weight, goals, and past or present health issues (for example, if you or your family members have a history of diabetes or hypertension). It then uses this data to recommend daily calorie intake.

The most common debate when it comes to Noom vs WW is which diet plan is better. For the purpose of this Noom review, we’ll be comparing both programs.
How It Works
As you already know by now, Noom is an app that lets you track your food and water intake, as well as log in your daily weight and exercise routine. I personally believe that Noom is a great app, but just like every other software, it has its upsides and downsides.
The food categories are easy to understand, although some meals might score for both red and yellow. The group chat is a great idea, but personal couches are definitely not favored by users, as seen in Noom reviews.
If money is not an issue and you’re willing to overlook some of the downsides, then Noom is a good app. It’s not a diet, it doesn’t restrict you and it can even be fun!
